Any CLS 550 here with an X-Pipe?

There are a bunch of thread talking about xpipes/resonator deletes/2ndary cat delete...etc. Any non-AMG C219s out there installed an xpipe? How about 2ndary cats?

Very nice. I have a few Qs:

- Was it necessary to delete the resonator in order to install the xpipe?
- Do you have any issues with the xpipe upgrade?
- Did you go with Magnaflow?
- What pipe size did you use?
- I hear people talk about 2.25, 2.75, or 3.0 pipe size on other models. With the pipe size you are using, is it the same size as the pipes that the xpipe is connected to?

- Do you have a sound clip of your ride? Yeah there are some videos in YouTube but I want to hear what a resonator delete with xpipe (only) sounds like (I'm guessing that the powerchip should not change the sound).

Please PM if you don't want to post here.

I think I found your posts in MyMBOnline regarding the resonator/xpipe. I can't view the videos at work (i'll check it when I get home) but I'd still like to know the specs that you used.

Hi Gabe, there's really no point in installing an X-pipe unless you take out the resonator. The resonator balances the pressure between both exhaust banks as well as quiets it down...so when you remove the resonator, the X-pipe replaces it (but doesn't quiet the exhaust obviously).

Had zero problems with the install. Took it to a shop I know in Cypress and an hour later it was done and installed. I think he charged $250, including the part.

Magnaflow 2.5" universal X-pipe.

You can also hear it on launch here, but then the wind noise blocks it out...

I'm planning on buy this Magnaflow Xpipe. It looks like it's just the xpipe, no other pipes with it.

Aside from the xpipe, is it required to buy connection pipes to replace the resonator?

Don't need anything else, just the junction itself. Just to let you know, the shop you take the car to would be able to get them for cheaper than you (wholesale vs retail). So if you have a shop in mind, it might be cheaper to just have them get the part for you.

I've been trying to find a picture of the CLS 550 resonator. I can't seem to find one. Anyway, where is the resonator in this pic? Is it the one where the number 9 arrow is pointing to?

Also, if I understand this correctly, the bullet resonator is the section that the number 5 arrow is pointing and the other side of the part where the number 4 arrow is pointing...

I need clarification.

That's correct, the resonator is #9.

The bullet resonators are #5, and the other canister on the same stretch of pipe as #4 (#4 itself looks like the catalytic converter). Don't bother with those though, they provide zero gains in power or sound.

Any issues with smog?

With resonator removed with an x pipe is there any issues of check engine light? Will it pass smog? Any drone noise? Is it just loud on wot (wide open throttle)?
