Auxiliary Battery? Where to get?
Guys, I had an auxiliary battery test low today at the dealership and they wanted $208 plus tax and labor to install which I thought was just silly. I've seen the other threads with individuals that have bought cheaper ones at Autozone or whatever, but the dealership warned me that I HAVE to get a Mercedes battery for the system to work properly or for an extended period of time.
I did a search and saw back in 2008 Konigstiger gave the part number (A2115410001) and suggested going to Mercedespartssuperstore.com for $108 plus shipping. I went to the site and the list is now $187 and their cost of $149. However, when I call them, they said that the cost was $208 but the didn't ship batteries out of state due to being a hazardous material. Not to mention their price went down when I mentioned the online price???? Hmmm.
My question is that is it completely necessary to have the Mercedes Battery or can I get a sealed one with the same specs? Any other places to get a battery for a reasonable price. Lastly on ebay, if I enter in the part number, I see a buy it now for $65 add for a battery that is supposed to be for the E-Class or S-Class. Do they use the same aux battery?

From what I understand, you're generally going to retain a higher resale value --especially with MB-- if you stay consistant with the use of Authentic MB parts.. I'm not positive in this particular case since it's not a HUGE issue, but if I heard correctly, MB is pretty **** about the use of Authentic parts as it pertains to your resale someday down the road. It might be best to go authentic rather than have a marked-down resale because of something so tedious. They might not be lying about it causing an error, and if they aren't, you could get some crap for it later on during resale if you go with a knock-off brand. They don't like anything touching their cars other than us, the consumers, and them, the dealers lol..

Ok then, who sells OEM parts other than the dealer or which dealer offers discounts? (used to have an Acura and there were several dealerships that would offer 30% discount on parts) Any other opinions on OEM auxiliary battery vs OEM?

Anybody can say OEM maintains value. Thats like saying if you run non OEM tires, for example Michelin PS2s, on your car it looses value.

Regarding the resale value, I'm all for using Mercedes parts, but a battery is silly. It's not like I'm throwing in different engine parts or shoving a ford exhaust because it is cheaper. If I don't get OEM, I would get the exact specs of the existing battery especially since it is an aux battery. I just want to ensure whatever I do works as it should and lasts.

The cross reference for our aux. battery is a PTX14. Hope that helps. If you lived in California, I could get you one for around $30.

Try AutoZone, Sears, NAPA, or WalMart
The auxiliary battery is actually a fairly common motorcycle battery type 14-BS. At AutoZone the part number is CTX14-BS FG AGM, at Sears its a Diehard Gold 14-BS AGM. Cost should be $65 to $75.
