Extended warranty quotes
Hi,
Just bought a 2008 CLS with 45k miles on it, and it's exactly 3 years into the factory warranty. A local dealer gave me the following quotes for a MB extended warranty:
5yr/75000 miles---$2995
6yr/75000 miles---$3595
7yr/75000 miles---$3995
5yr/100000 miles---$3995
6yr/100000 miles---$4695
7yr/100000 miles---$5595
Do you guys think these are a bit rich? I'm leaning towards the 7yr/100k miles, since that seems the best bang for the buck. I will probably end up driving about 13k mi/year. I'm going to negotiate the price down.
Thanks, and it's great to be a MB owner!

It all depends on the coverage of the warranty - or should I say the fine print. I hope it is an exclusionary warranty but 7yr/100k sounds good assuming you are planning on keeping the car for that long. it also depends on when the counter for the 7 yr starts, now or once factory w. expires.

Extended warranties about about three things:
1. The price (of course)
2. The coverage and term you get for the price, which can be dramatically different from plan to plan and company to company
3. The company; financial stability, claims-paying history, how they are insured, etc
All three of the above items need to make sense in combination with one another. For example, a super cheap price on a super long great coverage warranty is meaningless if the company fights and denies claims all the time.
If you'd like help, feel free to email me at brucem105_AT_comcast.net, or post specific questions here. For the OP, without knowing what company and specific plan you're considering, there is no way to say if it's a good value or not.

Thanks for the reply. Maybe I need to ask more questions from the dealerships, but I have a 2008 under factory warranty, and got these quotes from them directly. They said that the extended warranties cover everything that the factory warranty covers. I assumed that these are Mercedes Benz warranties, but perhaps I should clarify. I don't think any aftermarket warranties cover "everything that the factory warranty covers", right?

Agree with Bruce re the 3 important variables of an extended warranty. OP, the extended warranty business is full of loop holes (by design) so i would recommend requesting the actual contract so you (or maybe some knowledgeable members here) can go over it.
