Considering CLS Purchase

I currently own a Lexus LS460, but am considering selling it and buying a used CLS. I am leaning toward a 2008 CLS, as I would like to avoid the most dramatic portion of the depreciation curve and I love the lines of this car. I intend to buy one with less than 30,000 miles and I am in no hurry to purchase.

Here's my questions:
1. Is there a best year to buy or worst year to avoid?

2. What are the top 2-3 items I need to look for as I shop and drive these used cars?

Thanks a ton.

Buy 2008 and up. Try and get a p1 or o2 option car. Everyone will tell you if in your budget go C.P.O. ( certified pre-owned) . Almost like owning a new car for half price. Sport body kit give the car nice appearance better wheels , spoiler , side skirts and different bumper. I could be wrong but I think the amg option has the blue polarized windows. Gives it a nice look if you don't wanna tint Windows and keeps some uv rays out. Hope this helps.

2008 model is pretty much identical to the 2007 model. The 2009 model has a lot more upgrades(electronically such as stereo upgrade, and also has a couple of cosmetic changes(grill, steering wheel, side view mirrors, etc)). And I'm pretty sure the "blue polarized windows" come standard on all of the cls models, I have yet to see one that didn't have it and don't recall an add-on option for it. I recommend the 2009 model, since you pretty much getting the last model for the w219(not that many changes with 2010/11). Don't recall consistent issues for 2007+ models but you can peruse the forum for that. Coming from a Lexus you will def. lose a lot of space.

I agree a 2009 will always be a better choice.
2007.is off factory warranty so might not have option to purchase extended warranty. That's why I say go 2008 or newer

All around a solid car. Many airmatic issues resolved, engine and tranny are good. Although always a case here and there with issues but overall solid.
Guys are right, 09 would be the best year and low miles/warranty balance.
Personaly keyles go and parktronic are a must. And most models ive seen already have heated/ventelated seats so thats no hard to find.

2009 CLS 550
I just upgraded from an E320 to a 2009 CLS 550 and I can tell you it is one very fine car. P1, Parktronic, wood/leather steering wheel. Yes, they are a bit on the smaller side, but unless you're really big/tall the front will be fine. I'm 6'3 / 220 and the fit is great. In the back, not so much, but I would sit back there from time to time if it was the price for driving it every day... The general interior shape and size, the seating position and shape/softness, window position, etc give a very enveloping cozy/warm feeling. This a very classically elegant car.

I was very fortunate to get a very low mile CPO, that went in service in late April '09, so I have 1-1/2 years left on the original factory warranty, plus the one year extended from CPO, then I bought 2 more years. Since the car has only 6k miles on it , I have a 4-1/2 year, 129k mile warranty. And this car was not just driven at the race track - the trip computer shows the same mileage as the odometer with an average speed of 19MPH, so it was truly driven by the proverbial little old lady once a week to grocery store, twice a week to the bridge game ) If you can find a car like this you get everything you would in a brand new one except the privilege of saying you bought it new. Oh, and the privilege of paying approx 40% less than new.

Buy one and welcome to the club!

I recently bought a 2008 CLS CPO from a dealership and after taking iot to my local shop I found out that it revently had much of the rear suspension replaced and there was over spray under th car from body work, none of which was disclosed when i asked. Even if it is CPO and at a dealer have it inspected! This damage was not on carfax or autocheck and even worse it was not in the Benz dealer system under thte vin so ther is no record of it. the only way to find it was to inspect that car. Even though the dealer did the CPO inspection there was no mention of this.
Be careful and if you can do it go for the 2009

I was very closed to deciding to add a CLS350 to my collection of Mercedes. However Io was advice by few Indie to totally avoid 2005-2007 batches (even early CGI). Main concern would be the timing chain, airmatic and 7G transmissions.

Looks like I have to wait for the 2008 facelift to come down in prices before I can get to own this sexy piece of metal. Now I am looking down the range which is the C200k W204 instead. Can someone pls share their experienced in owning & maintaining the early CLS batches, or are there just some VIN range I should avoid?
