2006 CLS500 Trunk Lid Control Module

Maybe someone can help me here. I searched but found nothing.

My TLCM (Trunk Lid Control Module) is shot. A relay inside. Can anyone tell me if a "USED" TLCM will work? I found one for $125 off a 2006 CL55 (works in CLS550 and CLS500) that had 40k miles. Was in accident but trunk was untouched.

Someone told me that "IF" the Trunk Lid Control Module was "coded" to another car it will give me nothing but problems.

Is this true? I think that the ABS and Battery Control Modules do get bound to the car and/or their relative equipment but from my reading, the Trunk Control Module does not bond with the car/trunk motor.

Thanks for any help/advice.

How do you know it's shot? Mine same year 06, one day the trunk button and light was out and did not close had close manually. I did a search as most people here same issue the control wires eventually wear and tear. I re-soldered them and wrapped electrical tape and reinforced the bundle of wires with more tape. There are about 10 wires in the upper right drivers side rear of trunk hinge. You have to take apart trunk panels to get to them. Easy job just time consuming.

Done/did what you did. Repaired one wire, still no actuation of the trunk motor. However, you can hear the relay trying to work. Buttons all light up.

So I shorted the relay to ground and pushed the button, and WALA, the trunk closed, yup right on my stomach/waist. SOB, should of known that may have happened.

So what's happening is the relay is triggering when the button is pushed but not staying close long enough to engage the motor. But when shorted to ground and the relay stays closed, motor works fine.

So - new relay/control module needed.

Is #2198200526 the correct part number for this trunk lid control module that fits a 2006 CLS500? I see this number also references the 2007-2011 models also.

That is correct. Here is the used one I bought off ebay for $125. Works like a charm. It was off a CL55 2006.

If you buy a used one and install it and it doesn't work, it could be because it's coded to another car. There is a way to reset the Trunk Control Module and have it coded to your car. My mechanic said he had to do this, but I'm not so sure, cause when I handed it to him, he had it installed in a matter of 30 seconds (car was already torn apart). I was not watching unfortunately. From what I know, the Trunk Module is not a module that gets coded to "specific car", unlike the ABS Module and Battery Control Module.

But if you buy a used one and this happens let me know and I'll tell you how to reset it or put you in touch with my mechanic.

Thanks! I am looking at getting a used one off ebay also. The part number is the same but it says it's off a 2007 CLS550. I'll keep you posted once i install it. Does it require alot of tearing apart to get to this module or is it just located behind the trunk lining?

Tearing apart, I would say yes. I helped my mechanic (friend) do it. He's a certified Mercedes Mechanic and he tore the trunk apart like it was nothing and I was like, "can you put that all back together?". Obviously he's done it many times.

With that said, I would attempt it. Just start pulling stuff apart (take pics if needed so you can put it back together). The TLCM (Trunk Lid Control Module) is located to the outside of the Trunk Lid Arm, Driver's side.

I'd like to know if you buy a used one and you just plug it in and it works. That would confirm my suspicion that the TLCM is not bound to the car.

Thanks and good luck. It saved me over $300 from buying one new.

Just wanted to update this thread by saying I had both issues as described above, a busted module and a pinched wire that needed to be spliced back together. I first replaced a used truck lid module that i bought off ebay and noticed that my trunk light and close button was not illuminated. Determined a wire was being pinched by a plastic wire tie that is used to attach the bunch of wires to the trunk arm. Once the power was back on, i tested the module and it worked perfectly. So to answer your question, a used trunk lid module does not need to be re-programmed to the vehicle. Thanks you help!

CLS Trunk Problem

Hello All,
I just purchased a 2008 CLS 63 AMG

The trunk operation seems to stop half way if the trunk is opening or closing and the red buttons go out.
A little manual persuasion and the lights return and a second button push completes the cycle .
This happens during opening or closing

Does that sound like a wire problem?

If so how can i locate the bad wire.
Thanks in advance

Trunk Module Replaced with unexpected results

Is there a reset procedure needed after installing the new module
Is at a fuse issue?

Oh Yes let me start at the beginning.
The trunk stops half way open upon opening and stops half way down when closing using the key, door switch or the outside trunk release and close button.
Thanks in advance

New module needs to be normalized and any fault codes erased using MB DAS. In reinserting old module fault codes “may” have been stored and may need to be erased. If replacing module does not resolve your problem consider replacing potentiometer part 2118201597 (remove plastic cover from drive unit – b24/16).

CLS Trunk Problem

Thanks again konigstiger,
This may be more than I can handle technically.
I thought this would be a simple module swap.

konigstiger,
Im almost afraid to ask but can you walk me through the steps to

"New module needs to be normalized and any fault codes erased using MB DAS. In reinserting old module fault codes “may” have been stored and may need to be erased. If replacing module does not resolve your problem consider replacing potentiometer part 2118201597 (remove plastic cover from drive unit – b24/16). "

I do not understand how to normalize...erase codes or MB Das..but I am a fast learner.
Again when I inserted new module there were no red trunk light and no operation of the trunk
Please do not give up on me
thank you

Only Drivers door not opening when smart key near car

Thanks konigstiger,
I will check out wire bundle this weekend.
Any thoughts on why Only the Drivers door will not unlock when smart-key is near car...all other doors will unlock when smart-key is near car.

Trunk Release problem

I broke down and took it to Mercedes Dealer because I also had a driver's door that did not read the smart key. The repair was a new door handle that needed to be painted body color
The trunk problem was caused by two broken wires.
Thanks to all that helped

Keyless Go Key Batteries.

Does anyone know how to change the batteries in the keys.
My car is telling me that its time to change the key batteries.
Must the dealer do it,does the system need to be reset?

thanks in advance.
