Why does it look like a Japanese version of Maybach? I mean the rear tail lights looks like a acura/camry/honda and the sides looks like a Maybach and the front looks like

I suppose they could have used a better color for its official debut.

Hilarious. I thought the same thing. The rear CLS lights look like a HOnda rip-off from the Accord Coupe or something. It's the same analogy of the CLK320/500 rear taillights looking just like the Honda Civic's rear lights. The Hondas came first.

Anyone else see the blatant similarities???

And the S-Class came before that...

Yes. The overall triangular shape though not the blatant u-turn curve within the lights themselves.

Well then - in that case, you have to include one of those Volvo coupes (forgot which one it is), which has a similar taillight 'looping.' And then you have an international car design conflict on your hands

Which Civic are you referring to?

Its easy to criticize designs but I think that the industry has reached a "wall" in terms of designing unique cars without being extreme. There's only so much you can do to light housings and such. Also, a lot of cars are starting to look alike because there are so many new models on the road, increasing the likelyhood of finding similarities (this excludes lexus).

Its an evolution of the design. the theme is pretty much the same though just rounder. MB should not stop evolutionizing there design just because honda or toyota did a modified version of the tailights.

But alas too much copying from companies make everything look the same. The future S and CL that are going to debut in a few years are going to move away from this rounder design (ie new e class, new clk) and go the radical, angular, aggressive, sporty look... I just hope they dont become bangleized. (cls is still pretty clean car imo). But this CLS seems like the basis of future MB designs for some reason I am assuming.

I have to completely disagree to reaching any "wall" in regards to design or creativity. This statement is the same as stating that there is nothing left in the world to discover because all of the "important" species and locations have already been found. Try the much greater world under the ocean (75% of the world) or the farthest reaches of civilization.

In fact, if there weren't much more to create as far as light housings why are there so many variations and spectacular designs in light housings and technology (LED) appear consistently every month on so many new concept/proposed vehicles? 2D geometric conglomerations of squares, triangles, circles, rectangles, polygons, ovals, ellipses, paragons, etc. are limitless YET light housings are afterall 3D and even moreso unbounded with imagination. Any similarities you see in lighthousings is based solely on copying designs and mediocre efforts due and/or costs though not because a designer has nowhere to go in design and ideas. The mind's eye is unbounded.
