What are your impressions
Did you get to sit in these cars? Since these are the first production cars, I am wondering what you think of the interiors. Seems like there is leather on the top of the dash above the gauges, which is different than the E-Class. How about the fit and finish overall?

yes, i actually got to drive the silver cls350!! great car, but to be honest, it didn't feel a whole lot different from the e-class.. the interior looks great, but again, no major difference between an e or clk class (in my opinion that is)
legroom in the back is ok, but i expected it to be a bit roomier... but overall, the cls is one gorgeous car!

I suspected as much
Thanks for the report. I have been trying to figure out how the car would differ from the current E-Class. From the pictures, the only significant difference in the dash is the larger hunk of wood- otherwise the gauges, nav, hvac and radio all seem the same. I get the feeling that the interior feels a bit tighter than the E Class because of the lower roofline, am I right?
Also, since it uses the same chasis, engine and brakes as the E Class, it must pretty much drive the same. How did you like the new V-6?
I agree it is a more organic and sexy look for Mercedes, but I feel that this is intended more, dare I say it, for the female audience? I like the way the current E Class looks and agree that the CLS is sexier, but it is also less practical (less space and visibility) and also a bit derivative. We have been looking at the current E Class for more than 2 years now and it still looks fresh. I wonder how the CLS appearance will wear on us?
Which would you rather have- the E55 or the CLS55 for 15% more? Same performance (maybe a little less in the CLS55 since it weighs a bit more).

well, first of all i should say that both, the e55 and cls55 are superb cars. But given the choice i'd probably go for the e55. the car makes somehow more sense. more space and better visibility. if i wanted a "real" coupe and had the money, i'd probably go for an 05 cl600.
the cls V6 responded well driving, but i can't really compare it to the e-class since i own a clk 2K and testdrove an e500.
the nice thing about the cls is, that it'll be a headturner for some time while there are already many e's on the road here :-)

Great pics, thanks. How is the headroom, for the driver, when compared to the E-class?
