OUCH!!

If it comes out that much in the U.S. I will cancel my order!!

With declining sales in the US, I hope MBUSA will be smart enough to keep the price down.

Thumbs up I ordered one too !

My position is about #17 on the CLS 350. When did you place your order to be number one. I place mine at about 4pm on Dec 14 before the official launch. Did you go to the launch at the Convension Center ? The price is not that expensive when you consider the options that are included and the First registration tax. Anyway, what color and options are you putting it. Mine is still undecided. Cheers !

Yeah i was there for a bit.. fell in love with the Silver 350 w/ AMG package and rims. Very sporty. I actually put the deposit back in June. Im curious to know how many orders there are now after the launch. Do you know when yours will arrive?

As for color and options im thinking either White, silver or Red. and options just the moonroof (cant believe that is not included) steering wheel shift buttons, Harman Kardon sound, and AMG body kit.

BTW...Welcome to MBWorld

I am considering the special color but wasn't sure if it will come out okay. Other possible combination might be Back/Red with Matt Laurel wood, white/beige. Unfortunately, there simply isn't enough real photo of different colors on the web as of now. The sales person said production will be in March 2005 and that mine will be licensed around the same time as the initial batch since thee is no need to do the Type Approval. FYI : Being the 1st, your CLS will be subject to Type Approval and it will take two more weeks before license.
P.S. I have been on the Benz World site for a few months.

Just confirmed the order today. Possible March production date but probably more like April prod. Silver/Black matte burr walnut trim (no other choice offered yet) Moon roof, gear change buttons, Keyless-go.

I cannot believe Airmatic is a 36K option before tax!! oh well. Damn CLS500 owners get their cars in April, but im looking at july before actually taking delivery.

Edit: okay Airmatic is not $36K it was a typo on the price list its actually $16,000.

Talking Specifications Confirmed !

It was a choice between Obsidian Black Metalliac and Indium Grey Metalliac. While we like the Indium Grey, we decided to take the Obsidian Black just to be safe. The interior will be Cashmere Beige. No additional options was selcted as the vehicle is fairly well equipped to begin with. In fact, we like the 17" wheel better than the 5 spoke wheel.

I thought I could think I wanted a CLS55AMG as my ultimate MB ; now this 1.65m HKD tag means that is it (the end). Zung Fu is truely rip-off HK MB fans this time. I guess they do this rip-off is because the 645i priced ~1.3m already. If you think about it, why would I get a 645i and not a cheaper CLS500. But, I really love CLS55AMG as there is no point to get a E55 any more for sake of sporty, the CLS is the ONE.

Tezta and other HK folks, I am newbie to this fourum and happy to be part of it. I read this for about 6 months but first time to post. I am think about the CLK350 also but I don't know the best way to deal with my current C320. Does Zung Fu trade-in price reasonable? I am lazy and just want to sign papers and exchange the car in one day.

BTW, what does the default 17" rim of CLK350 looks like? Also can we order black bird-eye wood rim instead of the brown walnut?

Thanks!

CNT, thanks man! the CLS350 does have the same engine as the SLK and i was told that in 2005 the E320 will be replaced with the 350 engine as well. Actually it does not come wiht Airmatic standard, the 500 does. So i had to order the Airmatic seperate, especailly if i want to fit 20's.

Yachtie,

Welcome to Mbworld! i think you might get a better deal finding a used car dealer to take your C320 from you. You can try to ask ZF but honestly i think they dont offer very high, they told me they would give me around 400K for my CLK200 before the end of 2004, brand new sticker was $475K.

You are talking about the CLS or CLK? The CLS only has 1 type of wood at the moment, they will offer the other 2 wood options later in 2005. As for the 17" rims i honestly have no idea which rims come standard. I dont care actually since i will be changing them as soon as the car arrives.

Tezta

The E350 engine is 3.5 litre only, not sure if it is the same as your CLS350?
As I know the SLK350 engine is 3.7 litre, so is your CLS350 a 3.5 litre or a 3.7 litre?

Goosh .... this CLS is really coming in so tempting ....I suggest you get the airmatic option as so many rubbish trucks damaged roads in HK are truely lousy bumpy.

Tezta, Yachtie,

ZF trade in price is low but what they can offer is you can hand in your old car almost at the same time when your new car is delivered. This means you will get a trade in price secured. The CLS delivery is long.
Anyway, C320 is a popular welcome car and no problem to sell it.

Actually the SLK does have the same 3.5L engine. 272hp. I guess i will get the airmatic as well, never had it but drove an E500 once and i liked the handling better in sport mode.

Be careful with Airmatic's quality !

Tezta, If you are considering the Airmatic, please consider the ZF warranty package too. I used to have a W220 S class with Airmatic (MY 1999). The Airmatic shock was replaced four time during the four years I owned the vehicle. The tag for each time is HK$100,000. I didn't pay a dime because at that time they still have the 3 years all inclusive warranty. As you know, they current warranty scheme is not the same. Anyway, the new Airmatic should have been improved. Nevertheless, it is made by the same people "Continental Teve."

HKSLK,

Thanks for the Heads up! yeah i have heard plenty of bad things about Airmatic but im sure since you had the first model year W220 and it was the first time the Airmatic suspension was introduced they had plenty of bugs. You always like to go for the new models huh?

Folks, few more questions about the ZF trade-in (or others)...it is my first trade-in as I want to order the CLS too. I know the CLS waiting time is long, does it worth to have the AMG rim upgrade to my C320 while I am waiting. Does the AMG rim and/or body kit help the trade-in price? I am using the very standard un-mod C320 from ZF and still under 3yrs warrenty. Also if we look for AMG rim , is Speedline (ZF) is a good choice? or you folks have some other recommendation?

Thanks again

Hell, this is getting to be a HK exclusive thread Typically most of the cost of the bodykits and wheels or any mods for that matter would be lost in the resale value, ZF or not. Most people do it for the love of it or whatever for the time they own the car .....However, if the car is made more attractive, obviously chances are it'll be more favored by some resellers (depending on their clientele) and you may get a little higher but you'll never recover your cost. The flip side is buyers will be scepticle of whether the car has been beaten when it is done up in a racier fashion. Having worked closely with ZF in my last job, I have a feeling they will tend to favour stock cars rather than modded cars as you would be limiting the resell market of the car as modded cars are only attractive to a smaller part of the market..just my $0.02

BTW, Speedline charges a hefty premium on their aftermarket parts and they are often out of stock. There are many other reputable aftermarket shops that sell wheels or bodykits at lower prices and may have the parts in stock since they get them in the grey market. Both I and tezta have a number of sources for these if you really want them but my recommendation is not to do it if you only intend to keep the car for a few more months.

1) Given there is going to be at least six months worth of wait, I'll try to sell the car myself. The trade in value from ZF is known to be low. What you might consider doing is to sell the car on a consigment basis. This will usually generates a higher price for you.
2) As the others had stated, upgrading the wheel to a car which you are about to sell will generate no additional money for you. Hence, I will wait until the CLS comes in and upgrade at that time.
3) If you buy from Speedline, the price will be about 20% higher. Yet, you will get grade "A" AMG wheel. While the appearance of the wheel shall be the same, when the wheel/tire is balanced, you'll notice the lead/weigh stick on the rim to be much less. I had bought from both Speedline and Street vendor and hence I noticed the difference.
4) Personally, I think the stock 17" wheel offers a good balance on style, performance and comfort. Hence, I am not changing.
Cheers !

Tezta, an interesting point for your information. When I bought the W220, I did not have to wait as ZF has a few of each and every color in stock. Wish that was the case with the CLS !

I am a bit late to follow up this thread
If anyone in HK has decided to get a CLS, drop your cheque to ZF now.
There will be a world wide long queue.
Believe me, whether you get a cls350 AND cls500, you will never regret.
If money is handy, get the best leather , wood combinations and must be fully loaded options.

No one in HK will buy a CLS in plain.
It is gonna be the most fancy Mercedes in history, and we are talking about 900,000 for the 350 and 1,100,000 for the 500 . Damn these are not S class man , they are practically E class based with S class price tags.

It is tht style and luxury that gonna be fashionable and worth the money.

I am very tempted but lucky that I already got C55 , so I will not change it to CLS in two years. I will enjoy you guys driving them in the streets.
Or drive them over to show me :p

CLS will kill 545i, 645i
The only cars BMW can sell in 2005 are the new 3 series and 120i. X3 is real crap ugly .

:p
