If Mercedes decides to put this new V8 engine that is coming in the GLS/GLE in the CLS, would anyone here be interested? My fingers are crossed - I really miss the V8 in my previous CLS550...

Yes. Would be great to see a return of the v8’s to this class and the E as well.
I realize the performance and numbers in the 53 series is amazing but there’s something about the character, sound, and experience of a V8....

From what I've heard, that will not happen. But obviously I could be wrong.Originally Posted by cda

I've heard or read that if you want more than the CLS53, you'll need to go to the GT 4-door with a V8. That's Mercedes' marketing plan. If the "580" engine does appear in the CLS, the next upgrade would be the AMG version of this engine with the addition of the electic-driven compressor like on the CLS53 (EQ Boost+, not just EQ Boost). You might as well wait for that . I'd guess this would be a CLS58 or a replacement for the CLS63.

Cls580 has a nice ring to it, but I doubt it'll ever happen. Hell there's no plan for 63 variant for the c257, if you want a 63 car with the swoopy roofline, you gotta get the Gt-4. :/
The vanilla V8 (550)has been replaced by the AMG CLS53. For the same price, you get similar power plus a better suspension and brakes. V8's are going the way of the dodo bird. Average fleet mileage and technology are making these engines more and more obsolete.

I thought the same thing until Mercedes introduced their new V8 with the same hybrid tech in the inline 6. That engine will find it's way in the GLS/GLE and the upcoming S class replacement etc. It doesn't look like V8's are going anywhere. Originally Posted by petee1997

Will that be the new propulsion system to replace the 63?

I'd expect a 4-liter V8 (AMG version) with the EQ Boost+ enhancements over the "580" version. That includes the Mitsubishi-built flywheel/starter/motor/generator and the 48-volt Borg Warner eBoost which drives the compressor to force air into the intake manifold to eliminate turbo lag, mostly at low rpm. But the 5-liter V8 (like in my CLS63S and GT S) is probably history -- maybe a limited issue in an S as an S65 to replace the 12-cylinder.Originally Posted by petee1997

Perhaps you saw my post about these Hybrid enhancements vs. Formula 1 technology at
