Sorry about the typo. The part number is Part No. 000-982-68-14.

perhaps you can contact this law firm who has filed a complaint / class action lawsuit.

https://www.carcomplaints.com/news/2...-gle-450.shtml

i have been watching this thread closely - I was planning on buying an e450 but waiting to see what happens.

The Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 class action lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey: Gerald xxx, Jr., v. Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC, et al.

The plaintiff is represented by the Law Office of Lewis G. Adler, Perlman DePetris Consumer Law, and Robison Lemon Law Group LLC.

GLE, GLS and E-Class owners, as well as this CLS thread, are reporting 48V issues. Hopefully MB gets it right for the W223 launch.

Hopefully also gets it resolved for the W206 launch since that too has this EQ Boost tech for the entire lineup.

After waiting three weeks, dealer replaced the 48v battery. I have been driving for about a week and so far so good. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Service adviser also advised that I should be driving the car more often, at least 300km a month, to keep the battery charged/optimized. Does this sound reasonable? And is it a requirement for this 48v system?

That's odd as well as unfortunate........"wear out your car to keep the battery charged". Sounds exactly like something a dealer would say. You should be able to use your car however you'd like without fear or reprisal.

It seems that the issue runs across models that share the 3.0L inline-6 turbo engine with EQ Boost, which I think includes the GLE 450, AMG GLE 53, GLS 450, E 450 sedan and wagon, E450 coupe, CLS 450 and CLS 53, and Cabriolet 450.

Report 48V fail to Government in every country affected.

There is an active post on this subject on this forum GLE class (V167) > 48v Battery malfunction
https://mbworld.org/forums/gle-class...battery-7.html
See post 242, 243 suggesting we report to Governments

My first battery lasted 191 miles, the second 535 miles. I'm on battery 3 just shy of 1,000 miles.

Yikes, I'm sorry to hear that. Aren't you a prime candidate for a Lemon Law Buy Back at this point?

Not yet but if the present battery fails, I'm a candidate. The crazy thing is that I love the car in spite of being on a flatbed twice in the course of two months. It's such a shame this has to hang over our heads.

I hear you. My wife and I really, really liked hers... for one week. I hope you don't have any more issues. Good vibes headed your way.

I'll add my 5c... Haven't heard about any 48V battery problems in Germany at all... Heard there was a "bad" batch of those batteries (maybe all went to US?), but really haven't heard about this problem at all... This problem does not exist in Germany. Weird.

That's encouraging news actually.

Do they sell CLS/GLE/GLS and E class models all with 48V ISG or is the German market diesel primarily and few if any 48V actually sold there?

CLS 2019 48v problem

My 2019 CLS has been with the dealer for 10 days now with a 48v battery problem. The
car wouldn’t start at times but after I tried again it would. Also getting strange messages. This is the latest text I got from the dealer:

We ordered a grounding cable the other day that is scheduled to arrive monday AM. We are re-sealing an elctronics unit as of right now that is located underneath the primary catalytic convertor and all of its requisite heat shields. Wont be ready til Monday - Tuesday at the earliest. There was a real problem in your 48V system. Reply STOP to OptOut.

2021 GLS 450
Angry

Our 2021 GLS 450 encountered 48v battery issue this weekend. Car only had 5k miles so far. We were returning home from our first family road trip on this car and 200 miles away from home when the car wouldn't start up. We had to deal with long distance towing to dealership and returned home in a rental car.
Dealer made a parts order for new 48v battery, they don't have an ETA when the new battery arrive from Germany.

Reading through this thread, if you are planning for long road trip with a MB vehicle with EQ boost, please think twice. This seems to be highly unreliable and unsafe vehicle for road trips.

Sorry to hear that : ( but can you specifically tell them to order the battery with the new part number that is supposed to solve the issue instead, to prevent this from happening again after the repair? Unless they already confirmed to you the part number and it is the new one?

I’m also monitoring this closely as I have a cross country trip coming up. My question is, will MB just give me a new battery part number because I ask for it? MB has yet to acknowledge this as a known problem.

I believe MB did indirectly acknowledged it by having that 48V battery service bulletin in which the instructions were to install the latest updates and also mentioned about removing paint from the grounds. However, they did not publicly admit it and start a recall yet (as far as I heard, I might not be completely up-to-date on this). I still believe that luck should be on your side on this third battery but I understand why you decided to be super cautious with the car especially when planning road trips. It doesn't hurt to try asking for the new battery though, worse is they deny nothing else while the best is they have it replaced for you.

Thanks. You're a great source of information and that is good advice. While I'm skeptical that MB would jump at the chance to install yet a fourth 48v battery in my four-month old E450 wagon absent an official recall, it certainly doesn't hurt to ask. So far so good with battery #3, but I still have real trust issues when it comes to taking it on a 2,400 mile trip in the dead of winter with my wife and dog in tow.

My dealer won’t just replace the battery. They said it’s much more involved to fix the problem.
It’s now been 15 days they’ve had my car.
Does Mercedes ever buy back cars? I got the car in Oct 2018 (2019 model year). Only has 20,000 miles.

You could look into the lemon laws but I suspect the window probably closed on that given that you bought the car in October 2018. It doesn't hurt to take a look, though. It's easy to find that information on line.
