Dealer is using 229.5 oil instead of 229.51
I got a 2019 cls53 amg and read in the manual that the oil I should be using is 229.51, 229,52, 229,61,229,71. However I went to the dealer to get a quart of oil and they gave me 229.5. I told them of the specs and they said this is the oil we use in all gasoline engines and is the only one we carry. Now even if I go out and buy the specified oil somewhere else there’s no point as they will just add the 229.5 when the oil change is due.
Is this normal?

Do you change your own oil in the CLS 53?

No actual reason why you can't use a low ash diesel spec in a petrol but not petrol engine oil in a dpf equipped diesel .
VW Audi made it simple with their one stop shop universal 504.00 507.00 that does both and from 3 to 10 cylinders .
Higher oil performance peramiters than MB oils inc anti wear and exhaust filters and that's why I use VW oil in a Mercedes Benz .
