Dealer is using 229.5 oil instead of 229.51

Clarification! This is for a 2019 cls53 AMG (gasoline)

I got a 2019 cls53 amg and read in the manual that the oil I should be using is 229.51, 229,52, 229,61,229,71. However I went to the dealer to get a quart of oil and they gave me 229.5. I told them of the specs and they said this is the oil we use in all gasoline engines and is the only one we carry. Now even if I go out and buy the specified oil somewhere else there’s no point as they will just add the 229.5 when the oil change is due.
Is this normal?

Interesting.

Do you change your own oil in the CLS 53?

That's very odd because all Mercedes diesel engines have required the low-ash 229.51 for years. It's called ESP (like Mobil 1 Formula M ESP). It's hard to believe a dealer is using 229.5 in diesels they service. Tell the dealer you want the diesel oil.

In a petrol !!!

No actual reason why you can't use a low ash diesel spec in a petrol but not petrol engine oil in a dpf equipped diesel .

VW Audi made it simple with their one stop shop universal 504.00 507.00 that does both and from 3 to 10 cylinders .

Higher oil performance peramiters than MB oils inc anti wear and exhaust filters and that's why I use VW oil in a Mercedes Benz .

It's infuriating that the dealership doesn't know their stuff well enough to know that there's an exception to the 229.5 for gasoline / 229.51 for diesel rule. They absolutely have to stock the 229.51 oil for diesel engines (yes, you can use it in gasoline engines too but you MUST use it in diesels). I'm not sure why the 53 engine calls for low-ash oil, but a dealership that doesn't know that's the spec does not inspire confidence.

This is for a 2019 cls53 (gasoline) not my gl which is diesel. But yes the requirement is for 229.51, 229.52, 229.61, 229.71 not 229.5 for this model.

Yes. For some reason, the 53 engine requires low-ash oil, which has been limited to diesels until now. I'm not sure why, but the solution is to make sure the dealer knows that this mild hybrid gasoline engine specifies the "diesel" oil (229.51). (The other specs are also all low-ash formulations, minor updates to the "diesel" spec.)

Because of particulate filter low-ash oils are needed. 53 AMG requires 229.51/52/61/71 but 229.5 is a wrong oil
