Pretty Quiet Here

Seems quiet here so I will add a nonsense thread...

I have been one to trade cars every couple of years, but I have been much more "reasonable" lately . Have had my CLS53 2 years. Only put on 9000 miles , so I do not drive it daily, but I have been lately. It is a wonderful car, luxurious, powerful, comfortable, but I seem to have become complacent about it. Yearning for something else. Maybe more power, more sports car (I have a Nismo GTR so I don't need anything faster).

Fast forward to this week. I had to turn the car in for a windshield replacement (rock) and service. I was given a C300 loaner. Not a bad car, and I am sure optioned lowly. I realize now how darn nice the CLS53 I have is. The interior, the ride, the power. I guess I needed an eye opener, the grass is always greener right?!?!? This is a great automobile. And I bet the rest of the CLS class are as nice.

I know, bullsh-t post, but the forum needed something . At least I gained some new appreciation for the car. Yes, I still want a GT63S, but I think this car fits the bill for what I need it for. At least for the cash outlay.... Enjoy your cars people, it could be much worse...

I couldn't agree more with your post. Have been one to turn in cars before lease is up, but every time I drive the CLS, I love it and have not wanted for much more (except the same GT63S )

I'm in the same situation with my gt53

My first mercedes is my gt53. I usually trade in ever 1-2 years but I can't think of anything I'd like over my gt.

2017 CLS550
No post is a BS post, especially since there is so little activity of late. I'm an old guy so my 2017 CLS 550 is all I can handle these days. I shudder to think what your AMG would do! Every four years I trade my Mercedes in and get a new one. I had a 2012 ML350 SUV which I thought was a great car but the little lady fell in love with the CLS when she saw it so we had to get that. I love it too but truth be told I would rather have my SUV back. I discussed this with her last fall since the 2017 was going out of warranty and she agreed we would get a new Mercedes - but it had to be another CLS. Keep in mind she is the boss. I'll be 73 soon and have learned to let them be boss on the important stuff or you will suffer for it in the long run!

So, I ordered to my (our) specs a new 2021 CLS 450. It was suppose to be built in the second decade of February. As bad luck would have it we did not get a slot on the assembly line until the third decade of April, or so I was told. I got an email yesterday from my salesman who said he is checking on the car and will let me know the status as soon as Mercedes gets back with him. I told him to keep pestering them, and not wait for them to call him. I should have a number by now to track the car. How much you want to bet it is still delayed and not even built yet? These small dealerships in small towns in the country simply don't have the clout the big dealers have. In the past, I have gone to the big City to buy and order my Mercedes cars and never had a problem. I thought I would give the local dealer a shot this time, even though it cost me a little more, and I can see problems on the horizon. We shall see what happens but if I had known all this I probably would have waited a few more months and ordered a '22 model. It just should not take six months or longer to get a car, although I realize things have been fouled up by covid so I've been patient. I'll post back when I finally get the car.

2017 CLS550
Thanks Doc. I will most certainly post photos when?? it arrives. The equipment I ordered is not much different than my 2017 but after a couple Diamond Whites, I decided to go with one of their new colors - Cirrus Silver. I have no idea what it looks like in person as the dealer had none in stock but the pictures I found on-line looked good. I hope I am not disappointed. I got the Nappa Leather this time too in the Brown Marsalla color. I also changed up a little and got the AMG night package and black AMG wheels. Should be sharp and mean at the same time which is the definition of the CLS and what sets it apart from most of the Mercedes line. The other thing that I included that I do not have on my 2017 is the acoustic package. I have no idea if this works or is just a thousand dollar gimmick but I want this thing to be as quiet as possible.

Other than the above items, I will have basically the same car I have now, which was pretty fully loaded as is, including the parking package. This, however, I left off the new car. I have never used it. In fact, I doubt I have parallel parked in at least 20 years. Because I live in the sticks and seldom go to a real city, all I do is run the back roads and this car is a ball to do that. The roads are like a formula one track, they are smooth in good condition and there are no police. The perfect home for a CLS V8 in sport mode! The one thing I am most anxious to see is how well the in-line six performs in comparison to my hefty V8 twin-turbo. They spec out not all that far apart but to my way of thinking there is no way the six will out perform that 278 motor. I consider that engine one of the best ever in the Mercedes stable, at least for petro cars. They have made a couple iconic diesels that will last to the next century. Now the wait becomes aggravating!
