Considering a 2022 CLS53

I'm a newbie here! I've had my first MB 3 1/2 yrs (C300 coupe) and have almost 56,000 miles. I'm ready to pull the trigger on ordering a 2022, either E450 or CLS450. But now I'm considering the CLS53 (I'd consider the E53 but can't get a heated steering wheel, really, MB??) and I'm in Maine so it's something I have and want again.

Someone who works at MB referred to AMG as "alotta money gone"! He said to be prepared to replace one set of tires with every regular service....so is the AMG worth the expense? And does it ride as smoothly as non-AMG models? I often travel bumpy roads up here!

I read that the 2022 CLS 53 has been dropped from the US https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a3...-cls-revealed/

Well, then that solves that. Wow, ok thanks! Now I'm hesitant to buy anything until I see what else might be dropped from the 2023 line. Not sure I want an end of model car!

The CLS is pretty much dead, EU still gets the 53 but in the US the last model year for 53's will be 2021. 2022 will bring in the refreshed 450 and from there the CLS will essentially be history sadly. 2021's are actually a sweet spot in my opinion as you get the better AMG steering wheel but with MBUX.

But then I read that the E and C coupes could be replaced with a CLE (?).

I've looked for a 2021 E450 4Matic but just can't find one with the night package, light interior and heated wheel!! I started looking a couple months ago!

That is also likely a possibility, and the CLE would likely be four-cylinders only if its based on the W206. With the lack of inventory right now, your best options are likely to settle for what's out there or build your own vehicle as dealers are pretty much empty and won't DX (exchange) out their cars. My local Benz dealer has 8 new cars at the moment, its bad.

I did! I didn't set out to test it, only the E450. Because I never wanted a four door. I know it has a coupe styling, but in my eyes, it's still a 4 door sedan! But it's beautiful and I did drive it and loved the way it handled. But it still feels a little 'big' like a luxury touring car and not sporty enough!

2017 CLS550
I have enjoyed my 2017 CLS550, I think these are very good cars. I ordered a 2021 CLS450 in December, thinking I would receive it in April at the latest. Here it is July and it was just unloaded from the boat at Brunswick. I am hoping for a two week max trip to Texas but that might be wishful thinking too. I don't know anyone who has a 2021 CLS. And I'm not sure I want an end of model year car either. That was not my intention when I ordered a car last year. I know there have been problems but I only put down a $1000. It might be worth my while to eat that and wait until next year to see if things have settled down. What do you guys think?

Welcome to the forums

Replacing rubber at every service interval is just plain out right nonsense! What an idiot of a human to say that to you! LOL!
I've had my 2012 since 2012 and bought new......an awesome car! Have I had expenses? Of course I have! It's to be expected! Never one issue though during the warranty period and in the 65K miles I have driven it I have gotten new rubber 4 times. I have not even had to change rotors and pads yet! I followed the maintenence book closely and have done all required services at the right time....(when told by manual or miles)
A 63 beats the hell out of a 43, 53 ANY day of the week in terms of comfort, handling and style Sure it's more expensive......but worth it.
Good luck to ya!

Shortspark, there is a minor cosmetic refresh for model year 2022 but only a discerning eye will notice the updates. If the CLS is discontinued, it would not be until 2025 that it no longer sold since traditionally it is on a six year cycle. Regardless it is a beautiful car and there are not a lot of them on the road - I would pull the trigger. Good luck!

Thanks, that was really what I thought. I did not want an end of the year car but it just has been a crazy time. If it indeed comes in during the next couple weeks I am sure when I see it the wait would have been worthwhile.

What a bull**** ... I'll have soon 3rd regular service soon and guess what ... Lots of grip, no need to replace tires and probably they'll be enough for another 3 years ... It rides like normal non-AMG car, just don't force it to Sport+ mode with stiff air-suspension and loud exhaust and it's like regular car. Car as a half-AMG isn't really expensive in servicing so far for me, so "alotta money gone" is also in this case a big bull****...

I just replace the oil more often ... approx - every 6000-7500km using 5W40 MB 229.51 just to take care more about this engine.

2022 model has only different front bumper and received this MBUX systems with touch-screens and different steering wheel. Rest IMO is the same.

I have my E53 build slot!

So I changed paths and instead of the CLS 450 or E450 I ordered a 22 E53! I had a build slot for an E450 for a couple months now but they were able to swap it for the E53. Can't wait!

Didn't you get the memo? MB killed the CLS when they made it look like the CLA. Or did they make the CLA look like the CLS...🤔 Either way, another bad decision by Daimler.

Got the memo!

Yeah, CLA is a mini-me CLS. My loaner last time was a CLA. Pretty nice for the lower price point. I test drove the GT43 today but for the size and weight of that, I'd need to go with the hp of the GT53...but in the end I went with the E53. I just like a smaller car.

Congrats, you're gonna love it. There's a ton of tweaks and modifications to the 53 cars compared to the 450's that give them a great balance of luxury and sport. Coming from BMW's, the last of which was terribly boring ('17 540i) I have been very happy with my CLS53. Did you get the E53 Sedan? Or the Coupe/Cabriolet?

The COUPE! I've never owned a sedan! But I was considering the CLS 450 for a while. But I like a smaller car.

I drove convertible Saabs for 17 years. I drive so much for work that I need a quieter car and spend more time on the phone, it was just time for a hard top.

I can't wait. I only wish I could get red calipers!

Great choice, having no b-pillar in the E-Coupe gives it an even more luxurious and almost convertible feel. Very unique feature on the market too, other than the E-Coupe, only other coupes to feature no b-pillar is Rolls and Bentley.

Thanks! The pillarless style is one of the things I love about this one.

The CLS53 does not disappoint! It has the performance, luxury and comfort. I have a 2020 CLS53 and I love it everyday. This car gets compliments everyday and it sounds amazing.
I do have a few modifications on it. I'm running 20" wheels and tires, down pipes, tune, lowering module and wrapped it a few days ago.
