Bigger tires for CLS53

I have a 2021 CLS53. Have bent 2 wheels now due to the crap Pirelli low profile tires (and sh*tty roads). So frustrated. And now one of my tires is splitting so I have to get new ones ASAP. Only have 16,000 miles so needless to say I don't want Pirelli's and I'd like just a little more sidewall so that I don't have to keep having my wheels repaired. Have searched the threads and didn't find where anyone has changed the tire size. Just trying to see if anyone has and if it fit ok. Was thinking of going from 245/35 to 245/40 in front and from 275/30 to 275/35 in rear. I have the black 20" AMG rims.

New Tires are awesome!

I ended up getting Michelin PIlot Sport 245/40 ZR20 on the front and 275/35 ZR20 on the rear. Made a huge difference!!!!! Almost like a new car the ride is so much better. AND, when they replaced my tires, 3 of my 4 wheels were bent and had to be trued. Totally worth it to have nice tires on the car. I would say MBZ needs to get it together and put real tires on the car but they are discontinuing the CLS so it's a moot point now. Good luck!

Fantastic!! I had the same idea for my CLS53, for the same issues.
Based on rough measurements it looks like the fenders can handle the bigger dia.
Can you send a pic?

Hi .. just did the same today based on ur post Then i saw a few warnings on diff sites .. Since you almost have 2 years experience with this, would very much appreciate your answers on these :

1- What are your new tyre pressures ? Same ? (42 front - 41 rear )
2- Any effect on acceleration ?
3- Any effect on cornering ?
4- What's the change on speedometer ? I saw the calculations but is it noticeable ? caused you any trouble with speed cams ?

Thank you very much ...

Anyone else who made the change, pls help me get some info on this .. i don't wanna regret it now that i actually took the step but havent driven it yet ;(

Well it looks like I am the next in line to make this swap.
How is the fender clearance, especially in Sport mode?

Hi Moonor1808

I kept the same tire pressure and noticed absolutely no issues. Only a much better ride and no bent wheels.
And the car was just as fast and handled better because the tires are better. The Michelin's are so much better than the Pirelli's!
I didn't have the speedometer calibrated and I saw no issues there as well. Zero regrets on making the change.
Sadly, my CLS was rear-ended on the freeway at 50+ mph a few months ago and the car was totaled.
But my husband and I walked away from the accident. MBZ builds a helluva car!
Good luck!

I never had any issues. Not turning into tight parking spaces or at speed. Good luck.

I would have bought another CLS in a heartbeat but they don't make it anymore. MBZ has actually stopped making a lot of their AMG models which is super disappointing. I have a new S580 which is a beautiful car but nowhere near as sporty as my CLS. Hopefully when my lease is up I can get another AMG!
