I was surprised by the substantial difference in cost of the extended warranty between AMG GTS and S63 AMG.
3 year extended plan on AMG GTS is $ 7,700!
However, if you do not sign up at the time of purchase you will have to pay an additional 15%.
More importantly, if you sign up immediately and never get into the extended warranty time period you will get a refund on the entire amount. That is not the case if you purchase after the car purchase date.
Suffice it to say, we decided to go with the program - there really is no downside and leaves all the options open.

yeah i does sound good. then i thought about it for a bit.
a lot of people will probably not keep the car past 3-4 years. so they wont even get to use that warranty.
but they still get your money upfront... do with whatever they wish...
so its like youre loaning them $7700 dollars, for the most part. isnt it?
unless you actually do end up keeping the car and require $8-9000 in repairs between year 1 and 3 of the extended warranty period.
would the refund be with interest?

Yes, your analysis is correct.
However, if you decide to keep the car beyond the 4 years and want to buy the warranty, at that point you will:
A) pay 15% more
B) the price of warranties is likely to go up with each passing year
I suspect in the end of the day it will be 6 of one or half a dozen of the other.
I personally find it easier to buy this kind of stuff as part of the purchase -- the motto being - " in for a penny - in for a pound".
I have to say though that I was amazed by the $ 7700 price tag. I can't remember what a paid for the same package for my wife's S63AMG but I am fairly certain it was below $ 5000.00.

$7700??? What a scam! Did they hand you a bottle of Astroglide when they quoted you that cost? You would be better off taking the $7700 and sticking in the bank in a basic interest bearing account for 3 years until the full factory warranty runs out. You would have over $8200 then keep the money in that account for repairs. Unless the motor blows up you will be money ahead. A blown motor is the only thing that coukd bite you and that is highly unlikely. The next big ticket item would be the trans and you can completely rebuild the DCT transmission for under $5000.

I bought a CPO Edition 1 last week with 5 year, 100k warranty. Then added same 2 year AMG warranty extension for $4800. 7 years seems pretty good coverage for that price for a car that might be expensive to fix in case of any issues.

Some dealers will offer a discount on a factory extended warranty and their states don't charge a sale tax on it. I used Georgetown in TX for my S550.

Without the wonderful ABC hydraulic suspension system of past Mercedes that even a CPO warranty would not cover I would absolutely pass on that figure. Those struts and pumps cost millions worldwide to replace.
That being said, the GT has no such issues and I would explore other dealers pricing.
