Sportscar vs Superhauler: AMG GT S vs Audi RS7

Thankfully, the driver of this AMG GT S really didn’t need the aid of steering to smoke Audi’s RS7 super hauler.

Walking away from an RS7 at that pace is pretty significant IMO.

Would love to see the same with a tuned GTS

Yeah me too LOLOLOLOL

These races uses the same cars and there is the GTS beating the 991 GT3 and a modded F10 M5 (dp's, tune, exhaust, intake) beating the 991 GT3 as well by a lesser amount. I wish they had the modded F10 M5 vs stock GTS run.

Wow that is impressive. I did not expect that from a stock GTS against an RS7.

Not really surprised, but impressive nonetheless. As far as exclusivity and future value are concerned, I'd definitely pick the AMG GTS. But the RS7 does start nearly 20k cheaper from what I've seen. I just can't wait to see this M177/M178 4.0L TT with the hot-v design in the new E63/CLS63 where it's slated to make even more power than the M157 5.5L TT. Chris Harris did a great technical overview of this engine in the C63 AMG S video. Also important to note all of the engines in question here are drastically underrated from factory as Motortend has shown in the past.

I do not agree with future value. The RS7 are holding way better than the AMGs. Way less on the market and they are still commanding lows 100s or high 100s for a 2014.
My 2013 CLS63 stickered for 117K and I would be extremely lucky to sell it for $75K.
That is really disconcerting and one of the reason I may be leasing rather than buying if I decide to jump on a GTS.

Hmm. I see plenty of 2014 RS7 in the 90's...

Anyone buying an AMG, BMW M or Audi RS for resale value is misguided. These cars have never been about value and will never be picked based on it.

Never said we should buy them for value. You are the one who compared AMG to RS cars and stated they were better. RS cars even in the 90s are about $15K more than a comparable AMG of the same year.

but I would really like to get a used AMG GT after this

The RS7 competes more with the E63/CLS63 so comparing it to a more limited production SLS replacement is misguided in the first place, and that was my point: the AMG GTS is in another category than the RS7 (as the title sportscar vs superhauler denotes), so that's why I would choose it over the RS7.

I'm glad that Gustav does these out of segment comparos... I owned an RS7 and it was fast stock but I knew the GTS would pull on it from a roll with no issue but its nice to see it on video. I did tune the RS7 and that race would fare differently. I think the RS7 actually is produced in lower numbers than the normal production AMG GTS/GT (of course the Edition 1 is fixed around 350) 7 year run.

You can already get a barely used edition one for low 140s (one local dealer has one). I wonder how much MSRP was.

All AMG's depreciate sans a few chosen models. The ED1's should hold their curve better than the normal models due to the supply of the car. I never ever buy an AMG hoping or expecting a slow depreciation curve. They are wonderful cars to drive on the streets but they are even better 1 user cars. Unfortunately I have never bought a used one.

Early adopters always pay more.

All the edition 1's MSRP are $144,000. Resale seems to be great on the edition 1.

Yes Vic And...AMGs take a hard depreciation based on driver abilities and know how.

At least 5% Per year based on the difficulty of closing the hood for example.......

If that is the case, then currently, Edition 1 are selling above MSRP. Very interesting.

Yes, if a dealer still has their allocation; they usually are asking for a markup on the glass. My local OC dealer sold their initial allocation for 50k over and then bought two more from Midwest stores for 5k over and sold them too with big market adjustments. Supply and demand based on market and demographics.

Bought my Edition 1 for MSRP....nothing more or less. From what my sales person said, a MB dealer is not allowed to ask more than MSRP. This is not to say that other, non-MB dealerships, cannot do it.

I have seen large markups at a couple of MB dealers in southern California. $15K to $25K for GTS. The dealers are independent businesses and can add markup for what they call market conditions. I have always seen this to be the case here in Southern California - with other rare MB models as well.
