Loud noise when entering and exiting driveways...
Occasionally, I hear a loud noise when entering driveways. Sounds like a binding noise. The dealer couldn't duplicate the noise with a test drive. Sounds like it's coming from the read of the car.
Has anyone experienced this? If so, what the fix?
Thanks,

tons of posts on this, see below... some say exhaust, some say strut bars, some say pano roof... A few have actually posted their R/O's too.
I personally have heard the pop a few times when I first got the car but that has subsided since.

Vic, thanks for the link,
At least I'm not the only one noticing this. My Ferrari did the same thing on occasion. I would think that the MB would be better built.

I spoke with an AMG rep and there is a fix for this. There is supposed to be some kind of bulletin out addressing this issue.
As soon as I get it fixed, I'll let you know what the correction was.

The fix does not work, don't waste your time. The "fix" that does not work is them disasembling your front end and roughing up a friction point with some sand paper.....I kid you not.

I can only hope they have an easier fix then taking the whole front suspension apart.
Thanks

I did not have it done because everyone over on the AMG Private Lounge that got it done said it didn't work so I didn't want the dealership to start pulling stuff apart for no reason. It is your car you can do what you want but you will be wasting your time. Several threads over on PL regarding this topic and all have the same outcome.

JR I'd like to read those threads. Where is PL?
Thanks, appreciate it.

Too late LOL- it happened one time over about an 80 mile drive (round trip). Maybe its like bones cracking when its cold out
Anyways I adopt the Jim theory (JRcart) = id rather a pop here and there over a few months vs the dealer doing a meth type breakdown only to have several parts left when they reinstall hahahah

I agree with you, but, it's more frequent that every few months. I've had mine pop three times within an hour. Very annoying... I guess mine is much more serious than yours.
I'm taking it to the dealer on Monday. They claim it a stiffener bar under the car that needs to be tightened or torqued to specs. I'll let you know how it turns out. From what you guys have told , my expectations are not that high.

Update on Popping noise
Took the car in early this morning. The dealer's mechanic removed the diagonal strut supports under the hood. They sanded the surfaces and reinstalled and torqued to specs. We test drove the car and no more noise. The whole process took a little over an hour. It's the L162xxxx mfg fix.
I'm still not 100% sure this will cure the problem. I'll need to drive the car more to make sure this was in deed the issue. As the noise is random, it will take a while to confirm that they solved the issue.
I hope this helps others.

Update
It's been several weeks and no more popping. They fixed it at the dealer. I'm surprised, but, my car has not made anymore noises.
