2017 Rumours & Info?

Hi Gang!

Yeah, yeah...I know. It's a bit early to start talking about the 2017's but I have a reason. Long story short, I am going to be able to trade my 2016 in for a 17 when they come out.

So, I am wondering what the "news" is. Black version? GT3? Something else?

I have searched and found some info, but nothing recently.

Love to see what you guys come up with!

what kind of trade in deal are they giving you?

and why would you want to trade the GTS so early? do you have complaints or suggestions?

I didnt want to bore everyone with the story. I had a Black GTS on order, but it kept getting delayed. As an option, they had a used "demo" unit for sale, so I took it with the understanding that I would swap it out when the new one came in. The demo had 6000Km on it but they put new tires and brakes. However, the windshield needs replacing (and they will replace it soon) and it needs to be painted due to lots of rock chips on the hood and nose.
Also, the demo didnt come with my preference of options. It has the upgraded sound system, but it really does not thrill me the way a $7000 option should. I wanted a different interior and some other little options.
So, they are willing to let me keep this one for now and swap it out for a 2017 when they are available. Not sure the final deal until 2017 info is released.
In the meantime, I am still loving this car!

I am waiting for the base GT. $30K savings.
A Wesitec or Renntech tune will lead the same horsepower on a GT or GTS.
I am waiting on the order guide to see if there are major differences.

i heard the rear differential was mechanical not electronic?

also the base price was 115k vs 129k so it's only 15k difference

I have heard rumours about a "Black" edition coming out or the GT3.
No idea if we will see either in 2017 or even what the differences will be.
Hope someone can provide some insider info!

I would make an "educated" guess that there will be a BS version of the GTS but not in its 2nd model year. The BS versions usually come out in year 4 or around then but again Benz could change their standard MO.

That was my understanding as well. The next model out is the roadster as an MY18. BS was MY20 with the GT3 coming out before but not before MY18-19.

I also heard that there would likely be a convertible in the 3rd or 4th year - from a fellow at a dealership who has close connections to AMG. Who knows...and a hard top like the SL550 - or rag top?

Hi Wolfman, you normally seem to know what's going on but what makes you so sure that the next SL550 will be ragtop only.....I sincerely hope not, but if this is true, you looking at around 2018 with a brand new shape to boot?

Sadly, it is fairly certain that the next SL will loose its hardtop. From what I understand, MB wants to get back to its roots and create more real roadsters.

It probably makes sense given the broad mix of models these days. I personally love the hardtops though; with the glass roof and snows I can deal with MN winters

Anyway, officially we are talking MY2021 for the R232, MY17 for the R231 facelift

Sorry for the off topic post

Losing the hard top will also get rid of both complexity and weight. As car manufacturers further feel the pressure of boosting mpg, getting rid of weight becomes as important as getting "free" horsepower with turbocharging. The folding hardtop roofs add hundreds of extra pounds.

No 2017

There will be no 2017 GT or GTS model. MB has listened to the wisdom of all the non GTS owners and discontinued the vehicle. My God, there are 110 of them in the USA unsold. I am embarrassed to be seen in mine and only drive it at night. I should have listened.
