AMG GT-S GT3 cars finish 1-2-3 at the 24 hours of Nurburgring

A really impressive finish. The GT-S simply cleaned up after a gruelling 24 hours, with a lot of it run in the rain. This is the same GT3 car just reviewed by Randy Pobst in the latest Motor Trend issue.

Check out the video at around 3:19:00 to see the podium.

Thanks for telling us about the finish!

As a note, I don't think they are "AMG GT-S GT3" cars. The GT-S didn't run at all, let alone finish the 24 hours. The AMG GT line should go something like "AMG GT", "AMG GT-S", "AMG GT-R", "AMG GT3". The GT-S is in no way the AMG GT3 car. Just like a 911 Carrera isn't a Porshe 911 GT3 (it isn't called the 911 Carrera GT3).

**EDIT: I think Porshe gets even more confusing by having a GT3 street car and a GT3 race or cup car. These names are out of control.

I wonder what components they do share if any.

Watching this race was odd however, as it seemed other cars in field were not a challenge whatsoever. I was hoping the Bentley would stay close.

For the record, it was a 1-2-3-4-6 finish. Complete domination; and also the closest ever finish between 1st and 2nd. The white/blue Black Falcon car executed an unbelievable pass on the black HTP car on the final lap.

While this car has the 6.2 motor it is based largely on the upcoming GT-R.

The GT3 is based on the AMG GT and uses the SLS's NA engine, no secret. It is a race version of the AMG GT, or GT-S as you prefer. The previous GT3 car from AMG was called the AMG SLS GT3. The Audi R8 GT3 car is called the Audi R8 LMS, based as you might guess on the new R8. From Ferrari's web site: "That commitment has also produced the 458 Italia GT of which there are several versions – GT2, GT3 and Grand-Am". It's not called a Ferrari GT3. The latest issue is called the Ferrari 488 GT3, based on, you guessed it, the 488. Every make has a different take on naming their race cars built to run in the GT3 class.

Here is an official list: http://www.blancpain-gt-series.com/cars

What I like is the fact that a racing version of my car is doing so well in its racing form. As for the exact name, not a big deal for some.

It's pretty remarkable. What's interesting is that all of these GT3 offerings are pretty close in performance but the AMG demonstrated unparalleled durability in this race. The R8 V10s were fragile by comparison and faded pretty early. I'm excited for the next round of Blancpain. Silver Arrows racing is dominating everywhere from the Nurburgring to the streets of Monaco!

The interior is a bit hard to recognise, but the center console shape is there.

And the engine is about in the same place, sans turbos.
