We did a whole thread on the oil drain pipe extension recently:

Dimensions of pipe to aid oil change - MBWorld.org Forums

The ID is what's important - 40mm. The OD only has to clear the bottom cover that surrounds the tank opening. Length can be your choice.

Hi Alex thanks for all this great info! I see where you posted the procedure for checking the front brakes but noticed it is for the ceramics. Can you post the procedure for front brakes/calipers on steel rotor cars? I'm assuming it's pretty much the same but wondering if torques might be different.

I know Alex IRL, and I would not expect a response to this, as he has not had his GTS for 3 or 4 years now, and doesn't frequent the forums any longer.

Hi Mike,

If you've done brakes in the past, these calipers are simple and similar to changing Brembo pads and should be intuitive. There are a couple different styles used on the 190 platform. If you don't know what caliper type you have, just snap a pic of it, post it here and I can talk you through it. Again, if you've been here before, these calipers will look like home.

Here are the torque specs for the front brake options on the 190.

Best,

Mike,

Here are the WIS instructions for the calipers you most likely have

Thanks for the response!

I’ve done plenty of brakes, first time on this style though. I have the red caliper brakes. It was very easy. Just mainly needed the torque specs.

About to do my oil change in a month. Ordered OEM oil filter A 278-180-00-09 and apparently superseded by A 278-180-00-09-90. And it's a StarParts. Did not not come with an AMG logo on the top.

And a separate note from the parts person that the DCT oil is now available in quart size not just 20L size. PN provided is A-001-989-86-03-12 (~$38). Anyone else aware of this?

Also, he claims it's the same PN for the diff oil.

Hi,

Oil filter:

A 278 180 00 09 is the official number according to the EPC.
What does the -90 mean? No idea.

I haven't seen AMG oil filters before. Al be made by "Mann" or "Hengst" anyway. :-)

Air filters that are only available on AMG models sometimes have AMG on them. Believe me, these were also not manufactured by AMG either. :-)

Funny, your filter says: A 278 184 01 25 - 90
This number does not officially exist either.

Incidentally, "Mann" has an oil "micro" filter. Write about it in another thread.

Transmission:
The "BeVo" (BEtriebsmittel VOrschrift) = operating equipment regulation, has always listet under MB 236.25:

Shell TF DCT-F3
and
MB: A0019898603

If you check this number at MB, a price of -> 500 USD appears. I assume (is not apparent) that this is more than a liter.
Nothing appears (today) under number MB: A0019898603-12.

In the BeVo under MB 236.26 is now listet only:

Shell SPIRAX S5 ATE

There was previously also an MB oil for this:

A0019898703.

But that oil is no longer listed and available.

Your dealer made a mistake. (The MB numbers are the same at first glance?) The oils are not the same.

Best regards

Stenzel

Appreciate the reply @Stenzel-Germany dankeschön!

Now you got me thinking if the quart gear oil could be A0019898703-12.

The price for A0019898603-12 is about USD$38 btw.

Hi

In terms of price, it would be conclusive:

A0019898603 = 20 liters =500USD
A0019898603-12 = 1 liter (or 0.95 liter = 1 quart) = 38USD

But it is very likely Shell TF DCT-F3 just in the Mercedes canister. (Mercedes doesn't make oils :-) ) Just for more than twice the price.

Theoretically you need 7 & 0.8 liter i.e. you have to buy 8 liters. That would be about 300USD. But it would be unwise. For less you get the 20 liter canister Shell TF DCT-F3 (near 270USD)

I assume the A0019898703 was Shell SPIRAX S5 ATE also in Mercedes packaging. (Content is unknown to me)
Thats definitely doesn't exist anymore. Is also no longer listed in the BeVo.

I think it probably didn't sell well, especially since you get the shell in 1 liter containers. :-)

Best regards

Stenzel

Hi,

Just doing a GT inspection.

I discovered the following on the rear axle, right side, lower wishbone, frame side in front:

It was definitely installed that way during manufacture by AMG.
To defend the mechanic. It's not easy to look. Left even worse. (In the pictures, a panel/cover been removed)

It is worth checking these two points. Mirror Helps. The other bearing points are easy visible.

Bent adjustment plate:

Plate straightened and reassembled (front and rear adjustment plates swapped.):

Advice:

Always loosen both bearings and tighten together.

Best regards

Stenzel

Did my first oil change on my GT R (previous few services done at dealer). Not my first time working on cars but I was rather clumsy tonight. Maybe I should have burnt some incense in some circle and made offerings. I changed oil on another German car with 5 plugs and I came out feeling victorious. Not this car. Hopefully better in the future. Here's a quick top pic of the metal drain screw and infamous plastic drain plug with the hex shown so any DIYers can be more prepared with the tools needed.

Also, my metal drain screw was "stripped" to fit a T-40 instead of 6mm hex unless there was a torx version somewhere. I didn't like the look of that so I replaced the drain screw anyway.

Plastic drain plug: 178-014-03-00
Metal drain screw: 000908-014009
Crush washer for metal drain screw: 007603-014106 (not pictured)
Oil filter with o-ring: 278-180-00-09-90 (for pic see my previous post a few up)

Hand tools needed:
24mm socket (for oil filter cap)
6mm hex (metal drain screw)
8mm hex (plastic drain plug)

That's all? I was expecting a little more detail.

Note on the plastic one it says “max 4NM”. That’s not very tight! Best to use a torque wrench. You need a small one, like those used for bikes.

It's so much easier as others and I have done to suck the oil out from the dry sump tank and then remove the engine sump drain plug, leaving the pesty plastic dry sump tank plug in place. With a 10 litre size Mityvac Fluid Extractor or similar, you can see how much oil you have drained out by suction and then the balance of the oil drained from the engine's sump and filter via a large funnel into a measuring container.

Engine up to temp

Mityvac 10L container

Suck oil from sump tank dipstick hole, refill into oil cap hole

6.5 litres drained into Mytivac from dry sump tank

Separate container to catch oil via large funnel from sump and oil filter removal, 1.7 litres is what I get

Total removed is 6.5 + 1.7 = 8.2L

Just need a new washer for the sump plug, which you can also replace.

Looks like MB 236.41, in addition to MB 236.26, is listed as a spec for GL-5 gear oil for our GT. Could it be a typo?

.41 is Dexron VI and def much easier to source.

That seems questionable. 236.41 is for an automatic transmission fluid, Dextron VI while 236.26 is a 75W-90 gear oil, and these are totally different types of fluids. 75W-90 is made for gears in differentials, not automatic transmissions.

Shell SPIRAX S5 ATE is a listed product for 236.26 which is from the MB operating fluids : GL-5 gear Set, transmission 700.400/401/402 im Models 190, 197. Shell SPIRAX S5 ATE's previous name was just Shell Transaxle Oil 75W-90.
Technical Data Sheet: https://shop.sclubricants.com/pub/me...-datasheet.pdf

Good info here on what GL-5 is:
https://www.rymax-lubricants.com/upd...gl-4-and-gl-5/

"
GL-5 is suitable for hypoid gear service under severe service and shock loads and not for use in a gearbox."

If you search this document from Kendall Motor oils for 236.41 you will see which Mercedes vehicles it is used for, not the AMG GT

I want to change the spark plugs in my AMG GT. I have worked on engines as a hobby for many years. But in this case you need to remove some engine parts out of the way. Does anyone know of videos or docs that provide info on this? THere is one video on youtube but it leaves out a lot.

Thanks. Do you know what the gap and torque for the spark plug are? Also what is the lube that you put on the boot that goes over the spark plug called?
