New AMG GTS Edition 1 Owner - Questions

Hi All,

Just purchased a 2016 Edition 1 in Selenite Gray! It's on the truck to me, so, I wanted to be proactive with a few questions that I've been unable to find answers to on the forum.

1) Is removing the secondary cats really worthwhile? My state does not perform emissions testing.

2) Rather than having to select the fun exhaust setting every time I start the car, is there a way this can be saved and automatically applied at every start? It would be awesome if this could be done to set Sport+ as well.

3) Has anyone installed the Mercedes Illuminated Star? If so, which part #, and was it difficult to install?

4) Do the Edition 1's come with Distronic Plus?

5) I love customizing and modding my toys - what other "must have" mods have you done to your car?

6) What is the part # of the Ed. 1 factory soft cover? Mine didn't include a cover and I'd like to order one... but, I've not found an aftermarket one which works with the fixed rear wing.

7) My car also didn't include the charger - I have a Ctek Mus 4.3 from my previous car - would this work, and just plug into the cig plug in the hatch?

8) I've been told that there are two batteries in the car? Is that true? And do I have to worry about charging the other one?

9) Finally - any recommended settings that aren't default?

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it!

Ill answer some....

1. Its definitely worth it from sound change and cost perspective with zero emission issues.

2. No auto default... just program it on your Individual setting and you have to push one button each time you start it.

3. N/A

4. I think the ED1's are a fixed optioned car stateside and no DP.

5. A Tune is a must-- the gains are incredible on the M178 engine in both usable hp and tq. Expect traps in the very high 120's in good conditions. From an aesthetic standpoint, the car sits rather high so maybe a set of lowering springs (I have done the tune and drop back in 2015). The rest is really pretty much gravy as downpipes are a hell of a job.

6. N/A

7. I dont know if your aftermarket charge will work... our batteries are Lithium (not sure if that matters)

8. I have no clue LOL

9. For traffic driving I like D mode in S+... the car holds the rpms on up shifts and downshifts intuitively as well for good non manual spirited driving.

7. You do need a lithium battery specific charger

8. Only one battery

Does anyone know what the Ctek (or MB) part # is for the proper battery charger?

There are two batteries in the car. The 12v under the hood and a small battery in a compartment in the left side of the cargo hatch. MB check this battery when you come in for service.
