Engine Oil burning Smell Diagnosed as Cosmoline

After having a burning engine oil smell since day one which many here have also experience I took my car to the dealer and after about 2 weeks of searching for leaks and not being able to find any they said it was probably the Cosmoline engine coating that is slowly burning off when the engine is hot.

Anyone have this diagnosis? Any thoughts?

I have experienced this on my car and a new Porsche.

i suppose mine burned off since it's not even noticeable now, and I only have 2,000 miles.

Did the dealer say it was Cosmoline?

I've had it happen as well - although not on my GTS. It can be a bit tough to get off - and although they are supposed to get it all off at the VPC sometimes they aren't successful - or are sloppy.

I never took it to the dealer. I was aware of consmoline and considered it normal.

Did you get this car brand new? And how many miles have you put on it yourself?

I have 8k mile on my car and still get the smell. Dealer says it the dry sump venting?

This sounds like the 'hot oil smell' that I used to get in my C7 Z06 when coming to a stop with the engine hot.

Try and switch the A/C to recirc just before you come to a stop. I bet the smell doesn't occur.

One way to try and avoid this in the Z06 is to run the dry sump oil level slightly below the full mark; about 1/2 litre.
