Should I bail on the GTS and get a S63 coupe instead
I have been waiting for a new 2018 GTS . I'm getting tired of waiting. There is a fully loaded S63 in stock . Should I get that instead.
The used 2017 McLaren 570s with 400 miles is minimally priced higher than my configured GTS . That seems to be calling my name too but I resist buying a CPO.

Wow, you just went 180 degrees. Yes there are delays but the S63 is a completely different car. The only thing that is remotely the same will be the exhaust sound and even that is docile in the S63.
What are your exact wants/needs... then I think the community can better assist you.
But since you asked the question:
The S63 coupe is easy on the eyes and a good GT cruiser but it will never come close to the performance of the GTS in regards to handling, chassis feel, steering, and sheer OEM acceleration. What you will gain is luxo comfort inside and better cabin feel IMHO. But the car is a big boat and very soft in the market from a depreciation standpoint (worse than the GTS).
If you must have a car now and one that will perform like the GTS; the 570 is a great alternative.

I don't NEED a car right now. I'm driving an SUV which will continue to be my bad weather ride. I'm just getting impatient . I realize the S63 is a sofa on wheels. I'm just wondering if the GTS is worth the wait . I see other cars available while I'm waiting.
Its just like when your engaged and waiting waiting for the wedding but a bunch of ***** come around and throw themselves at you. Sometimes, in a moment of weakness you cave in and tap one of them!

Ok so we get it, you dont have a right now need. I would go out and drive some of these (Im sure you have already):
570S
R8 V10 Plus
991.2 Turbo or Turbo S (the performance is close)
Jag SVR
Im sure there are few more in the loop.

Vic as usual is giving you the right advice.
If the warranty on the 570S gives you 3 or 4 years of peace and mind and it has the color and options you like, I would jump on that as it is more or less in the same category as the GTS you are waiting for.

The S63 will lose 4K/ month in value if you care. Just a big cruiser.
The only MAC car to consider is the 720. It's the only refined car that would probably suit you. The 570s are raw as in freshly cut oh.

Different tools for different jobs - what's the job?
All very enjoyable in their own right
If you are looking for the highest quality equipment, you can't go wrong with a 570, but very sterile, too perfect
GTS more useable, not same caliber as 570
S63 a bit of a boat by comparison, albeit superb, a bit nautical
If you want sterile, super fast, and useable I would go 991 turbo S
If you are looking for emotion I would go Ferrari
If you are looking for emotion and performance, quality, useability and just really fast and unique I would go FF
We're talking about the same money for all above (FF used but with very low miles)

570 would be my choice. I keep telling myself I won't by a new car again ..... But I keep doing it. If the 570 is ready now and you are getting ancy , I would go get it today.
If you decide to wait why not get a GTC or GTR ? They are priced in used Mclaren territory.
Either way I wouldn't wait for a gts. I would only wait for a GTR.

Depreciation on the GTS, S63 and the 570S is about equal if this matters to you(maybe the 570 a little better which is not great at all). The 570 is just as fast as a GTS on a track but will smoke it in a straight line, 1/4, 1/2 or mile runs, hell, it even beats the Porsche Turbo S and Audi R8 plus and its 2wd compared to their 4wd, 10.6's in a 1/4 stock. So for around town or spirited canyon driving, the 570 is remarkable. The 570S would be my choice out of the three, and actually my next choice of all sports cars(in my price range) after my .2 GT3, but only because the GT3 is a better long term track car. S63 is just throwing money away to keep you satisfied until you buy a proper sports car, don't do it. Good luck with your decision.

According to MB Canada sources, S63 AMG coupe and convertible are expected to depreciate much worse than a AMG GTC convertible.
Their base prices are not too far from each other, but after 4 years, all things being equal, a GTC convertible is expected to be worth about $20k more than a S63 cabriolet.
Just for some reference, the 4 year residues from the same source :
S63 AMG cabriolet : 24%
AMG GTC cab : 38 %
.

They can be looked up on their website for most models when you configure models and calculate monthy payment options.
I just did a quick look up to use that as a reference to compare the expected depreciation of the AMG GT's relative to the S63.

And with all due respect to 570 owners and in IMHO I think it's ugly as sin especially compared to the AMG which is drop dead gorgeous

The 720 is in a completely different price range than the S63. The 720 competes against the Ferrari 488 and upcoming Porsche GT2 RS.

Robbie, what do you mean when you say the 570 is remarkable around town ? I've always thought of it as pretty low, light, and very fast but not the kind of thing you want top go to the grocery store or sit in traffic with... curious

LOL, I should have worded that better. No, its not a good grocery getter, but a nice spirited driving car, and the same as a GTs around town, they both drive stiff and sporty, and they are both eye catchers. But if ever at a stoplight to race someone(in Mexico of course), the 570 will smoke almost anything, where the GTS might lose to a Mustang or Corvette(GTS doesn't hook).
On looks, it is in the eye of the beholder, I think the front 2/3s of the AMG GT's look good, but I can't get over the backend, horrible in my eyes. If it had an *** like the SLS I think it would look so much better. My opinion, that's all.

Those are numbers for Mercedes "Star Advantage" financing, 48-month unlimited mileage.

GT2RS is going to be another ADM debacle.
The 720 out performs the P1 in comfort and on the ring supposedly, a 7 figure car 2 years ago right?

Definitely worth the wait assuming you will get the ECU tune. I do not like the 570S personally it is cramped and looks like a toy racers. The GTS has the billions of dollars of R&D of Mercedes behind it and it shows.

Didn't know S63s ran that high.
I bet almost every GT2RS is spoken for and on the secondary market will command a hefty amount over MSRP.
The 720 is a game changer with performance and looks that kill. Even with all the negativity about the headlights, apparently in the flesh the 720 looks the business. The performance is astounding. Biggest concern for me would be depreciation.

S63 will feel like a boat. That's cool but you'll still want a sports car.
The 570 is awesome. My close friend bought a 570gt brand new and got a nice deal. He loves the car. The only complaint he has is the car has no kind of dead pedal. He says the engine and transmission are fantastic.

The 570GT would be the sweet spot, a more useful daily driver than the 570S and still sporty and exotic.
