Ignition Coil failure

2016 GTS. <3k miles. Fault codes P030022 and P030485 get launched. Problem identified as #3 Ignition Coil (177-906-95-00). Anyone else had this issue? What causes an ignition coil failure??

Any electrical part can fail. There are updated coils for the 177/178 engines, there are multiple bulletins addressing misfires and ensuring that you have the newest coils. It should be fine after replacement, not a big deal.

The code you have is for Cyl #4 though, (p030485), if it was cyl #3 it would be P030385

Thanks! Interesting. Report states that per Germany, they swapped them around to isolate the faulty unit. Fortunately it was repeatable. That one sporadic failure made a huge impact to driveability.

Vibration can cause coil failure but generally a coil fails over time trying to fire a fouled or bad, or excessive gap plug.
