Can anyone comment on rides of GTS vs. C63S or Porsche GT3?

Hi Guys,

I am thinking about buying a GTS, but I want to know more about the ride quality. Specifically, is it too harsh on a daily basis?

I currently drive a C63S sedan, which I find to be a bit harsh as a daily driver, even in comfort mode. I sold my 991GT3 because it was a bonecrusher on anything other than a perfect road.

I don't mind the firm ride that comes with a sports car. I have a 650S and perhaps it has spoiled me because it's ride quality in comfort mode is better than my C63S or my current Porsche.

I would love to hear from any owners who have experience with these cars and can thus offer an informed opinion. Bonus points if anybody can also comment on how the Dynamic Plus option impacts the ride quality in the GTS. Thanks to all! Happy Holidays!

I think you would probably find the GTS ride quality to be a bit harsh given your comments about the C63. If you want a super fast sports car with amazing ride quality then I would suggest a 991 911 Turbo or Turbo S. They glide along in comfort mode (IMO).

i dailied a 991 GT3 for years and hitting potholes was a teeth jarring experience. My 2018 GTS is a much more civilized ride and I have the Dynamic Plus Package. Its comfortable even in Sport suspension. I would compare it to a 458 or Huracan as far as comfort. Maybe the Carrera S is slightly rougher.

From what I understand the 650S trick suspension is the gold standard of sports cars.

I've driven a GTS and a C63S. Interestingly I found the C63S to have a harsher ride in Comfort. However, I agree with Dragon-if you don't like your C63S as a DD, you probably won't like a GTS either.

Thanks for the comments guys - most appreciated.

I agree with the 991 turbo suggestion, but I am trying to go with something different as I have had so many Porsches. I also really like the motor in the AMG.

Thankfully, I live in Orange County so finding a GTS to test drive shouldn't be a problem at all. Keep the comments coming!

Best regards to all!

Problem with the GTS is that the stock springs leave way too much gap in the wheel wells so you HAVE to drop the car and as if the OEM springs weren't rough enough the reduction in wheel travel and firmer springs make the ride unbearable after a few months. It's one of the stiffest cars I have ever driven and probably one of the reasons there are so many low mileage 1 year old cars for sale because the owners get tired of the experience after a while, not to mention the blind spots and long hood. But it is a VERY fast car once ECU tuned. Hard to beat on the street and a very capable chassis.

You're going to be disappointed comimg from a NA GT3 with 9000 rpm redline screaming engine and 650S which is a class above the Turbo S.

Ive owned every car on your list (amongst your question) or still do. You are 100% right about the harshness of the C63S (mine is the coupe) and the ride is relatively close to feel in regards to the GTS but maybe just a bit more firm since the GTS runs the magnetorheologicals. But still for a car with mag ride the GTS is a thud mobile and thats on the really good roads in the OC (where you live too). Where I appreciate the planted, no roll, no yaw feel is in the turns on well paved streets. But the way I got around the tautness was changing the springs from oem to KW HAS on both my GTS and C63S. The spring rates are far more forgiving over undulations and slower speeds but I still get that full, no body roll, chassis gripping feel at higher speeds. Its not perfect but its better than the OEM springs. My 2015 GT3 was stiff too but the GTS actually, in oem setup, was even more of a road feeler than the 991 in a negative way. Of course my roads are mine and others drive different roads but I felt the GT3 to be slightly more comfortable.

The Dynamic Plus pack makes the dampers even more taut but you get that perfect driving car on perfect or near perfect roads; marry that with the magno filled engine mounts (part of the package) and the car is just about level even at higher lateral speeds. But there is a trade off as I mentioned in regards to damper rates and chassis leveling with the engine mounts.

With my current stable Id opt out for the GTS as a daily driver... thats my thoughts owning or owned what you asked about.

Thanks Vic. Super helpful input with real world comparative data.

I will have to go drive a GTS when I return. In terms of bang for the buck, it appears to be the way to go. The only other choice I might consider is to spend a little more and buy a 570S, which are now rapidly depreciating. But then I risk having too much overlap with my 650S. And at that point, I'd probably want to dump them both and get a 720S. Man, the car disease never goes away!!!!

I hear you on the depreciation but we all know that we can never go in expecting these cars to appreciate sans a few Ferraris and Porsche GT cars. I have, of course, been watching the GTS rollercoaster ride since 2015 and its inception. Its finally getting to the big drops so its a good time to ****** up a slightly used one. The 720S is a god with pauper like depreciation; watch that car fall down as quickly as it brutalizes cars on the road. Its dropped already and the McLaren nameplate just has never been able to hold its values (curves even worse than some AMG's). The 570S is the best bang right now with its performance and price (tune it and baaaaaaam).

Look at the auction pricing on the 2017 GTS's. And while these are obviously not retail prices, they are big drops for a one year old car:
