i live in So Cal and want to test drive a GTC coupe before getting one. No one has a coupe in stock any where. What is the hold up in the coupes? Lots of convertibles but no coupes! Anyone know of a dealer with one to test Drive?

If you really want a GTC Coupe, I would lose the test drive approach.

Production of the GT series cars has been a little different than most cars. The first year or so the factory only produced the GTS. These went for sticker+ to some early adopters. Then a few months later there were cars in inventory and better deals. Next the factory concentrated production on the GT model for several months for MY2017. Many of these cars sat in inventory long enough to get discounted.

Now for model year 2018, so far, MB has been concentrating on mostly producing the GTR and the GTC convertible. They are also producing Edition 50 coupes but in very limited numbers. They are also still building GTS and GT but also in very limited numbers. It seems like they have lowered production to prevent too many unsold cars in inventory. We all speculate that soon, probably next they will be a build run of GTC Coupes that are not Edition 50. Who knows how many they will build? Maybe the black series is coming soon. My point is that your best bet is to try and work with a dealer who can get an allocation for a GTC Coupe. Your idea of a test drive should be after the car arrives saying "I would like to drive this real quick before I do the paperwork".

Otherwise you're waiting for the first batch to come in. Those are spoken for so good luck driving one of them. Then your hoping that they keep building them and they sit long enough for you to test drive it. That may happen! In several months from now!

I do do not even know if a dealer can secure an allocation for the car yet.

The dealers in the forum should chime in.

I hear they are stuck at the port via a stop sale... a faulty sensor or something like that. Im sure others will have more direct intel. A few made already to the lots and those were the GTC50's --- I think there is one in El Cajon.

Is it for the seat belt recall/TSB issue Vic?

Have you thought about test driving a GTR as a way to see if you’d like the GTC coupe? Perhaps the GTC might have a little more of a compliant ride, and there is the issue of it having slightly less HP; (not that you can tell on the street), but there are a great many similarities between the two cars. Plus there are a few GTRs sitting at dealerships that I’m positive you could get a test drive in.

I think so; something to do with the seat belt sensors. No parts are available I guess.

I guess I’ll try to drive the convertible and the GTR to get an idea of the drive and visibility of the coupe. I just can’t spend over $150k and not know how the car fells and fits! I’m just not that much of a risk taker! I’m dreaming of black with the red and black interior and pano roof. A man can dream, right?

Drive the convertible, you'll know after a test-drive whether you want to pursue the GTC coupe or not.

I have a GTC Coupe Edition 50. In the San Fernando Valley area. Let me know if you want to test drive it. And it's a big difference than the convertible. The convertible you cannot see anything out there rear. So glad I got the coupe.

That's a generous offer - if for some reason you aren't able to take GTCEDITION50 up on it, as a fellow edition 50 owner in Canada, I can confirm that if you have ever driven the GT S and liked it, the GT C feels so much better. The wide track keeps it planted on the ground and rear wheel steering keeps everything precise. I did not have the option of adding the DYNAMIC PLUS package (MB Canada would not allow changes to their set configuration for the Edition 50) and while I was annoyed at the time, am very happy with how smooth the handling is in comfort mode (for regular beat up roads) and how much tighter and stiffer everything gets in the other modes.

I can't compare it to a GT R as I have not had a chance to drive one, but as my car while see limited Track exposure, I think the GT C may be a better choice for a more road driven car.

All the best in your search for one.

That would be fantastic! I’ll pm you.
