Car accidentally rolled forward when hit start button instead of park..

When parking has anyone accidentally hit the start/off button instead of the park button and unknowingly rolled forward?

when I first bought my GT s I parallel parked by backing up a hill into a spot. There was a Dodge Ram pickup truck a few feet in front in the next spot. I did the above mistake and just about rolled into the trailer hitch on the truck. My friend yelled you’re rolling and I hit the brake just in time and didn’t crash. Then I learned this was possible to do. I had stopped and grabbed my phone to dial up pay parking and that’s why I was unaware, besides not knowing the car is in neutral when like this.

‘It would have been nice if the sales rep had told me this. I had no idea. My friend saved me a ton of grief!

It took me a little while to get used to that, as well. Now, after I turn it off, I either hit "P" or open the door before I take my foot off the brake.

same with me. It was helpful once I found out the parking brake applies itself on when the door opens

In my car the parking brake applies itself when I press the ‘Engine Start/Off’ button after it’s been running even without the door being opened. In other words: I come to a halt; hit ‘P’ next to the gear lever; press ‘Engine Off’, and I hear the parking brake engage. This without opening the door. Btw, if I open the driver’s door with the engine running, the parking brake is engaged automatically.

I almost rolled into a wall because of this. Now I make sure to always put the transmission into park before I kill the ignition.

ya, crazy eh! I came so close to smashing into the tow hitch/bumper of the truck as I rolled down the slope. It would've been at least 10k+? damage to my brand new car. Would've really sucked
I had no idea the car is in neutral if stop and turn off car while in drive (by forgetting to hit the P park button)

it has to default to neutral.
consider the situation if the engine stops whilst driving ...and the transmission tried to engage park :-o ...messy.

Not on a hill because I'm in Fl. but have done the same thing. I make a point to push the button now.

knowing the parking brake engages once the door opens is handy. At least dont walk away from the car wondering if its engaged and in park because might have forgot

I've made the mistake of turning off the car first in my garage and although flat the car creeps forward a little. I make a point of pressing the P button now.
