Cost of ownership of an AMG GTs

Cost of ownership of an AMG GTs

After taking a brief break in my search for a car, I've resumed looking. i keep on getting drawn to the AMG GTs. I'm looking at 2016-17 model year. My goal would be to purchase one with at least 1-2 years of warranty left and hopefully a CPO to add even more. I do expect maintenance costs, but are there any inherent issues with the GTs that could get out of hand? If there are, would they be covered under the CPO or extended warranties I could purchase? I know with the Audi R8, air conditioning compressors, and Mag ride Shock absorbers are very costly problems that seem to occur often and are expensive if out of warranty.

Get a 17, as a lot of the early 16s had some issues.

There were no major system failures, but as long as your under proper warranty, no worries.

‘16’s and ‘17’s are both fine. Most of the early ‘16 issues were a handful of the first Edition 1’s with late ‘14-very early ‘15 production dates if I am recalling correctly.

If you want some warranty left, remember these are a 4yr/50k warranty car, so even a late ‘15 production date still probably has a spring/summer ‘16 “in service date” so you would have warranty until spring/summer of 2020. Should be more than plenty of time for a problem to rear it’s ugly head if you drive it some during your first year of owning.

GREAT cars, hoping for you that you find one you like and don’t hesitate to pick it up and enjoy the heck out of it!

I always keep an eye out as I love these cars for what is going on in the marketplace with them, lots of good ones out there for sale!

The Mercedes CPO program is excellent, so personally I think paying an additional $5,000(?) for a car through a MB dealer is worth it just for the CPO warranty alone. I believe it’s 5 years and 100,000 miles?

I’ve experienced no costs other than Service A which cost me around $250 in one year of ownership.

Been daily driving my 18 GTS for the past 15 months and it's been a hassle-free ownership experience. Had a recall for the seat belt tensioner and completed my Service A several months ago for $400. I find the build quality to be excellent and the service experience at my dealership is particularly good. So far GTS reliability has been on par with my GT3 and Lambos and more reliable and less expensive than Ferrari.

I did the service a on my gtc. It cost me around 100 dollars.

Most of the vehicles are sold with prepaid maintenance. And if you are a returning Benz customer there is usually some kind of loyalty which makes the already reasonably priced maintenance packages pretty cheap... The average cost of maintenance for 3 years prepaid up here on my GTC WITH loyalty runs to just of $200 CAD/yr. Of course tires and brakes are extra... 😎

Not that it matter but I'm taking mine in tomorrow for 20,000 mile service. Just curious how my dealer fares.

Just stop . The difference is not that great. The GTS is more than enough street car. The GTR is a more capable track car than the GTC.

The cost of a used 2016-17 GTS is around 96k. That is way different than the cost of a New GTC.

It is a big difference, sorry if you haven't had the chance to try. I never heard of anyone try a GTC and say "You know what, a GTS is just better/enough for me". And I'm not sure why you'd compare the price between a used GTS and a new GTC, what about... a used GTC?

With this logic, I should just JUNK my 2018 GTS. Apparently , it’s a shi(t)box.

I would love to get into a GTC instead of a GTS. But there is a dramatic price difference even on the used market (30-50k) and CPO market.

Well this thread has taken a bit of a side road but everyone likes a good pi**ing match occasionally, myself included! (Lol). Now that we are on the subject, I know wheels, horsepower, torque, and the great looking rear flare fenders are different in the "C"
roadster but what other differences are there. Let's all (or most) agree that if money wasn't a factor, all of our Roadsters would be a C edition. Thanks, and let the bantering continue in a construtive way....

The rearwheel steering has a great impact on driving, it makes the car feels shorter at lower speeds since it "turns on a dime", and makes lane changing very smooth at higher speeds. I wasn't bashing anyone's decision of buying a GTS, I was just curious as to why do it right now, given that there is already a facelift hitting the streets and talks of the GTS being discontinued. Even in the used market, there are GTCs from 2017.

The new “facelifts” won’t git the streets til 2020. When those are delivered, there will be talk of new facelifts for 2021. The cycle never ends.

the GTC is nice. But I figured, if I was stepping up to the GTC I’d step up to the GTR instead.

Deliveries for the 2020 model start in mid 2019, it's already for sale even through the official configurator with all the updates.

Some might argue the gap between the base GT and GTS is more considerable than the GTS to GTC. Of course the GTC is better, but whether the improvements justify the increased price is another matter entirely.

I don't like owning the base model. However, I don't have to own the top of the line model either. An analogy is when I owned the Carrera S instead of the base Carrera yet didn't have the desire to spring for the more expensive Carrera GTS. YMMV.

I testdrove the GTS, GTC and GTR before buying the GTC. The GTS was nice until I tried the other two. I found the GTC & GTR very similar, and I preferred the fact the GTC has a glass rooftop, it makes the cabin appear bigger and more livable, I felt the GTR a little claustrophobic. In comparison to the GTS, I felt both GTC & GTR had a better presence with their wide rear arches, and the technology aspects from the GTR exist in the GTC, not in the GTS.

At the end of the day, they're all amazing cars!

Buying a used AMG GTS used is a smart move as the depreciation have already taken a BIG hit from brand new. You are also aware especially those "Edition-1" cars were problematic, even new ones just by reading posts in this forum would show some have had issues.. Make sure when you buy used you get "Extended Warranty" or CPO as this might be a box of chocolates (you'll never know what you're getting).
