Just a thought, but that screenshot says the cause is a porous hose. That doesn't mean there's a leak. It means the hose material lets gas (the odor) escape because the material itself has microscopic holes. So liquid isn't getting out, but vapor is. So... replacing the hose with an OEM one isn't going to solve the problem. But if you replace that hose with something else, from another manufacturer, maybe that will do the trick.
Excellent point!! Thank you! The new hoses worked for a few weeks, so there is a good chance the problem could be resolved with proper hoses.
There is a good 3rd party MB repair shop in my area. I will have him look into it. Thanks again!
I took my GTS for it's 1st annual service to Auto Hans, a 3rd party service shop. Knowledgeable folks and great to work with. I mentioned the fume issue. Alex, quickly did some research and gave me a tech bulletin that discussed the problem with porous hoses. It shows the old part # and the new updated part #. He told me I have the old hoses. Part # on the service ticket from March of 2019 confirmed that I indeed had the old hoses.
I contacted MB dealership that replaced the hoses back in March of 2019 and showed them the tech bulletin. They installed the correct hoses and the smell is gone 100%. Service advisory told me MB released a new tech buliten since my last visit, however the tech bulletin that shows the updated part # references 2016 model year. They only thing I can think about is when they replaced the hoses back in 2019, they ordered the wrong parts.
I have attached the tech bulletin in case anyone here has the same problem.
Was that covered under warranty since it was not a full recall, did MB just fix it for free?
Yes, it was covered under warranty at no cost to me. I think even if the warranty has expired, MB should do it at no charge since it has to do with defective parts. Auto Hans told me it would be $480 if they were to fix it.
These are the two hoses that cause the smell. You can put your nose on them when you have issues. It attached right on the top of the oil reservoir. Follow it to the engine. Vent hoses
Spoke to my SA about the bulletin and he is quite sure this is only for 2016 AMG GT.
Has anyone with a MY17, 18, 19 received the fix?
TIA.
My current GTS which is the subject of this thread is a 2018 model. If you touch the hoses, they are wet, perhaps take it back and ask them to touch the hoses, they are permeable and leak gas/fumes. You can also see the old part numbers on the hoses. If you go back on this thread, you will see that I listed both old and new part numbers.
I did have a 2016 GTS with the same issue, took it in, I was told it's normal, I was about to trade it in, so I didn't push them to fix it.

I replaced the two hoses as described in your service bulletin...completely resolved the issue. Thanks for sharing!
I didn't have to remove any additional parts to change the hoses.
Curious are those the new hoses? Any pictures of the old hoses? Were they wet/moist to touch?
The photo is the old set. I already cut it up and threw it away. The new ones look exactly the same. The original was not wet, but very soft to the touch. If you put your nose next to them you can definitely pinpoint the odor.

Cool. Thanks for the reply. I brought up the issue to my dealer and they inspected but did not replace the hoses. Hope you don't mind me asking but what prompted you to do this yourself? Was your car out of warranty? Thanks.
Out of warranty yes. Though Ive known about it for some time, just never bothered me too much to ask for a replacement. Its very much eye of the beholder.
Hard for me to ever leave a car alone. Its a sickness!
Remember the guy who said his GT was a lawnmower? Couldn’t get it lemoned. All along a simple pipe replacement.
Was that the same guy that was suing MB (and a bunch of others) and doing things like entering his stool sample of evidence of the stress it caused him? That post was both entertaining and kinda sad - he needed some mental health intervention help.
