GT R Wheels on GT S

Yes, I know this topic has been touched on before... But nobody seems to have provided any real proof or have actually tried. A wheel shop that sells AMG wheels is confidently telling me that the widebody (GTR / GTC) wheels will fit the narrow body cars (GT / GTS) and will have an aggressive, aftermarket-like fitment. Has anyone actually tried or is everyone just assuming based on numbers? I have a lead on an inexpensive set of GTR wheels that I'm interested in.

Thanks in advance

Front Wheels: 10Jx19 ET56 (p/n A19040116007X71)
Rear Wheels: 12Jx20 ET52 (p/n A19040123007X71)

the bolt pattern is the same but offsets are way off. The rear wheel is 25.4mm wider than the GTS wheel. So it will stick out 12.5mm more if the off sets were the same. Since the offset is 52, the wheel would stick out even more. 68-52=16.
16 + 12.5 =28.5mm more proud than stock. That’s over an inch more pooching out. That is no bueno.

12” on GTS needs offset of +62.

Makes sense, thanks! That's my goal was to upgrade the widths to 12" rear and 10" front. Looks like aftermarket would be the only option if I'd like to go wider.

A wheel shop test-fitted GTR wheels on a GTS and this was the result. They don't stick out as I expected them to. Of course, once tires are on, that may be a different story. The wheel shop did the test fit and they said it should work. I'm tempted to be the ginuea pig and try...

Fronts aren't a problem. I'm running the same sizing. For the rears, it seems pretty aggressive. I'd love to know if you could make it work.

My prediction is that with 325's it'll rub but you might be okay if you went down to a 295 or 305.

295 on a 12” wheel ? That would be nuts. The 295 seems stretched on an 11” wheel.

LOL I never said it was a good idea... It would be incredibly stretched. Defeats the purpose of going wide in the first place.

GTC stock wheels are 305's on 12" rims, so that setup will look just fine

Are those stock wheels? Can't tell from the angle. They look similar. If so they have been refinished as they should sport a silver rim. Make sure it's a proper set... Good luck!

Refinished stock GT R wheels.

As much as I'd love to run 325's, I'm going with 305's in the rear.

Should look great. If you haven't done it already you'll have to drop the car an inch or so to look proper.

Absolutely will need a drop to look proper. I will keep you posted if I decide to take the chance.

Different. More aggressive offset on the GTC

i believe the rear offset on GTC is 46 vs 52 on GTR

A set of OEM GT R wheels are damn expensive, so I’m not really sure why someone wouldn’t just buy a custom set of wheels such as those from Signature, (forged; lightweight, look great and cost about 1/2 what an OEM GT R set of wheels cost, even used) with an offset/size to actually fit the car rather than trying to make GT R wheels ‘fit’.

A used set of GTR wheels may be cheaper than the signature wheels and they are readily available . No waiting.

The Signature Wheels are made in same factory as BC Forged which are also an attractive alternative . The offsets however will be spot on compared to the GTR wheel.

Have you priced out a set of used GT R OEM wheels? Stupid pricing still. My Signature wheels cost me < $4K shipped to my door. Signature even recommended slightly different offsets IF I had wanted a more aggressive look, however I stayed with the OEM offsets.

Yeah, GTR wheels can vary between 4-5k used.

The Signature wheels went up in price. They were around 4K , now 5k .

Are your wheels same specs as OEM?

I assume that P Rock is going through the exercise because the wheels are cheap. Otherwise why bother with experiments.
Also agree that custom wheels are the way to go for best fit. Even cheap flow formed HRE's will be better than many of the cast AMG wheels available for the GT models.

I was told Flow forged HRE were not available for the GTS .

vorsteiner has flow forged that fit .

BTW, have you ever priced AMG cast wheels? They cost more than some of the quality forged wheels!

Yes, I have access to a reasonably priced set of GT R wheels.
As for aftermarket wheels, HRE FF won't fit, Vorsteiner FF for the GTS comes in 20/21" sizes.
So the choices are stay stock, spend big bucks on custom wheels or step up to 20/21 sizes.
Regarding a custom set, BC Forged and Signature can make a nice set for a bit over $4k. The GT R wheels are less and no 5-6 week lead time. So this is the current situation.
I may just stay stock, lower it and upsize the tires. That may be enough for me.

If the price is right and it has the desired look, this is the way to go especially if you like the stock design. We stuck with the cross spoke design on our E63s (like the look) but lowered the car and added spacers front/rear to make it look right.

Personally I would recommend this set of wheels if still available. Nice looking 3 piece set ($11k list) for $3500 obo. with a drop these will look great on the ED1...

Yeah. Stupid money for some 3rd party wheels with an AMG stamp on it. Not that they are made in Germany; even many of AMG's forged wheels are made in Taiwan. (Noting wrong with that as long as the quality is right) but the pricing is not designed for retail customers but for insurance replacement.

Granted I was looking not long after I purchased the car, but used sets of OEM GT R wheels were $7K-$8K at that time! I can certainly understand that with a lot more GT R’s on the road now, sets of OEM wheels may have fallen in price; I just haven’t looked tbh.

I had a front 19” Signature 502 OEM spec wheel get slightly bent at the race track, I think when my son put two wheels off and then came back onto the course at speed; (there’s a nasty ‘divot’ in that area). I was quoted $800 shipped for a replacement wheel from Signature. Luckily though since these wheels are forged, it was able to be 100% ‘trued’ by heating it up at a local Alloy Wheel Repair shop, which was what Signature told me to try first.

I had my Signature 502s made in the exact same size as the OEM wheels, primarily because I use the ‘option’ tyres, (MPSC2 ZPs) as my track tyres, and since I had a spare set from my traded C7 Z06 laying around it economically made sense. They are fantastic wheels; incredibly well made; lightweight; great looking AND so much cheaper than buying other forged custom wheels.

Has anyone tried this? I have a 2016 GT S and am wondering if a set of 2018 GT R rims and tires will fit on the 2016.
