As far as stock wheels with the GT vs. other performance wheels, are you guys having any fractures or finish issues? I have the light weight wheel and can see how AMG designed them to be scooped out spokes but the black finish is getting destroyed.

I know that at least one owner in the UK had his wheels replaced under warranty due to the finish coming off. If you see ‘flakes’ coming off the wheel versus simple small spots from impacts you may have a case.
Have you shown it to the dealership yet?
I will be inquiring about them to the dealer. Interesting about the UK owner. Oem wheels are supposed to be very strong. Im not sure if they are sourced out to another vendor. Curious if there there has been any catastrophic fractures.

The wheels themselves are very strong, and light of course. The paint finish? Maybe not so much.
I have the base ‘Titanium’ coloured OEM wheels so no issues there at all even with track usage.

I must be too old. All these blackened out wheels and grilles basically hide the details. I can't see anything. That's why I prefer the non murdered look. I'd rather see the details than have them be hidden from view. Of course, the blacked-out wheels are all the rage right now, so a lot of people must like what I think is a poor design feature.

I definitely can't relate. To me, silver, and especially chrome, look tacky and cheap. The first thing I do to every vehicle I own is blackout any and all silver/chrome trim.

Not really. The black wheels turn brown with brake dust. The matte are better than gloss. The black gloss look good right after being cleaned. Drive around the block and they look terrible with brake dust.

I have an SL550 with 19 inch AMG wheels. The dealer just replaced my tires. I had one tire leak air the day after he replaced the tires. He showed me 3 fractures on the wheel. I have seen a LOT of posts on the internet about fractures in wheels. The dealer even told me that he has seen it before on the S500 sedans but not the SL. Mercedes must know this is a defect but is covering it up. Anyone see this issue out there and did you get any satisfaction from Mercedes Benz?
What was the resolution to your issue with fractures. My dealer just advised me that I had 3 fractures on a front passages wheel after I had them replace my tires. Only reason he found it is that the new tire started to have a slow leak and I brought it back to him. He showed me the fractures. Since it (leak) did not occur with the old tires, is it possible the dealer caused the fractures when they were removing the old rubber and replacing them?

Try to imagine chrome piece on this little number. I have. It is not a pretty picture.

What year is it? How many miles? Wear and tear mate
I haven’t had a chance to track the car yet. I have used matte touch up paint on 2 areas that have scratched or chipped. Not much you really can do. It wasn’t a fault of curb rash or anything just small stones when driving. Otherwise the wheels are mint. I’m OCD so the nicks were minor. The finish looks to be pretty robust but I wouldn’t use gallons of wheel cleaner spray or anything (I never really have, just soap and water). The break dust from steel brakes doesn’t really bother me too much. I personally kind of like the look, gives the car that aggressive, driven look. I don’t leave it, I do wash it off but for a few weeks it doesn’t bother me.
Just wait until you have to change out your tires. Good luck not scratching or nicking no matter how careful you are.

I have had wheels and tires changed many times, and I'd consider myself pretty OCD about that in particular.......get the right guy, who knows you expect a good job and knows you'll tip him, and you CAN get this done with no scratches or nicks! I wouldn't accept it other wise....and I'm not saying I go to some 'special' place.....it's Discount Tire every time! And I always ask for 'the guy' who knows what he's doing, and will wait a day or two if 'said guy' isn't working that day. I do admit that time and miles have given me more nicks and scratches than 'the guy' doing the swap.......with that being said, a good strip and re powder coating is not expensive(150-200 per) and can be done within several days I'm actually having this done this month on two sets of HRE's I alternate on my CLS
