I believe there was not one but two defects the glue on the early 16 cars and then there was something else later on.

I'm in Canada. I just got my letter dated Aug 12 2019 for my 2016 GT-S for the driveshaft recall. Car ordered Dec 31st 2015, received May 5 2016. They must have expanded the recall numbers, as original MB docs said it was only a limited number of cars. No parts available yet said my dealer, and I am supposed to wait for a second letter.

I bought my 2016 GTS a few weeks ago and the CARFAX report flagged this recall issue as not being fixed. So, I'm getting it looked at next week - supposedly a 2 hour inspection is required. Given car has 10k miles, I suspect they won't see any issues. If they do, how long does the dealer take to do this service? Given its potentially a safety issue, I could see them giving me a service car until its repaired.

[They have to check the serial number on your tourqe tube. Or drive shaft to people in the US. If they have to swap it out it is pretty extensive time wise. Almost everything under the car comes out.. so yes they should give you a loaner because it is a recall and it takes a long time to repair.

Mine was recalled earlier this year. The replacement was available but the bolts to hold it on took a few weeks. Had a small leak from gearbox which they sorted at the same time.

Unfortunately, after a brief inspection today, my 2016 GTS (VIN GA005495) requires the driveshaft to be replaced. Estimated time to repair is 1 week. Given the extensive amount of work to do this job, not too happy about this. Fear there will be some side affects.

Don't worry. Mine was done and I have not had a single issue with it since..

NHTSA maintains a website for all recalls in the U.S. You can enter your VIN and see what, if any recalls there are.

Mine is part of the recall and has close to 40K miles on it. all of these separation of the driveshaft happened in early miles. If you are low miles do it. I am in no rush to do mine.

Be careful about that. It does seem true that most fail at low miles....but mine also failed at low miles out in the middle of no where! I had to wait 2 hours for a tow truck. It wasn't fun.

My recall involves putting some label on the engine. My dealer has been urging me to bring the car in for that. But says it will only take half a day.

I've told the dealer I'll get that very important recall work done when I get an oil change. And to stop calling me about the recall.

Just got my car back from this recall. It was at the dealer for a week but most of that time was waiting on the parts. Once parts arrived, it took about 1 day to complete. Drive shafts with tags between 000322 and 002635 need to be replaced. The dealer charged the 'mother ship MB corporation' $3500 to do this work. Had I needed to pay this out of pocket, scary to think how much they would have charged.
