Bad Transmission meets Crappy Dealer

Hello All, bought my 2016 GTS Grey, 35k miles about three weeks ago, drove it about 50miles the day I bought it on a Saturday, next day check engine light came on and car started shifting very badly. Monday morning I take it to the Merc dealer around where I live here in Dallas. Dealer calls back same day saying after diagnosis tech determined it needs a new transmission. I ask SA how long the whole process could take because the dealer I bought from says you can return a car within 5 days and I was open to doing that. SA says oh yea MB will cover it and you should have you car back within a week (Big Mistake). I get a call from SA two days later saying MB approved a new trans and they should get it in two days, they finally get the trans after Labor Day. All this time I am the one calling the SA everyday on any update , when the trans is going to come, when car would be done/how long it takes to replace trans. I am not trying to be unrealistic by calling everyday but when SA says he will check in with me by noon and I don't hear anything till 6pm or when I call him after noon its a little unprofessional(hey who cares right). Finally Last week Friday Day 12 i go to dealer to pick up car and they tell me car isn't ready and they could not program the new transmission to the car and would be needing guidance from MB in Germany on what to do since they keep getting an error when they try to program it. we are on Day 18 now and still no word on MB on what the next step should be. Please does anyone have a suggestion on what to do or what action to take, I have a gut feeling the dealer isn't saying something. This is not the first GTS to need a new transmission I feel like something shady is going on that I can't put my mind on yet.

Sorry to hear about the long time in the shop. GT tranny swaps are nothing the dealer would be doing on a regular basis so that will contribute to the time.

That said, the GT models are not prone to transmission issues. Where is that opinion coming from?

Good luck of getting your car sorted out!

So sorry to hear about all this. This is nothing but awful. I’m sure you could easily obtain some compensation out of this experience by writing Mercedes corporate.

Either that or return the car.

He can’t return the car anymore.
At least they are doing it under warranty. I hope you got that in writing.
Good luck!

I was expecting for the twist to be that, after his time to return the car expired, they were going to tell him that it's not covered under warranty.

Wow. Sorry to hear and at least it's covered. My MB Service advisor is awesome and stays in constant communication with text. It's the best way. All advisors should be doing this. I think most likely they are having an issue and are telling the truth. They have no reason to lie. Should be fixed shortly I'm sure OP.

How's this for a transmission woe. Took delivery yesterday of my 2019 GT3 RS with 38 miles. Drove a couple hundred miles today and I was almost home and the reverse error came on followed by the engine control fault. Turned car off and back on. Drove down the street further and they both came back on. Car wouldn't get out of first. Was definitely in limp mode. Then it almost didn't make it up my flat driveway. From what I gather on Rennlist it's either a valve body or replace the PDK, which could take 2-3 weeks. Now I've lost confidence in the car. You kidding me a McLaren MP4-12C would have lasted longer than that.

Ouch, sounds like a quick series of events to kill that new car elation.

Benzbell: congrats on the RS, show us some pix.

I bet you’ll be fine when the PDK has the Valve body replaced, or the whole transmission. It will not hurt the car or resale one bit. Is the battery now 100% charged? A Li ion battery can be damaged if left in a state of low charge for an extended period of time.

No Li ion battery. Not worried about it affecting value. Started a thread with pics so as not to hijack this thread.
