Wheel and tire insurance? Need advice for tomorrow please

My question is for the GT63 4door. I found out today that I getting my car tomorrow and there are more people on this forum instead of the 4door.

I lease my cars for 3 year and went with the 21” forged wheels in black. My dealership wants $3950 for the wheel and tire insurance. In in California so I’m not driving in snow, etc.

Does anyone have experience with the wheel and tire insurance or have an opinion on it?

Thank you in advance!

$4k for wheel and tire insurance . Sounds like a rip-off. While a bent or broken 21” wheel is expensive, you’re much better of putting the $4k in a savings account. Just be careful around bad roads, and have some money set aside in case of wheel damage.

The max I normally pay is $1,795 in NC for 6 years, they're definitely marking that up on you at least 3 to 4 times costs, no way should you pay that much!

The dealership included wheel/tyre insurance as part of the deal when I bought my GTR, but I would not pay more than $1,500 for it out of pocket.

NB: double check that the insurance they are trying to sell you actually will pay in full to replace a wheel if it can’t be repaired/trued. Some crappy policies will not replace, only ‘repair’ a bent wheel. Given the cost of the forged MB OEM wheels this type of policy sucks.

That’s an expensive tire/wheel coverage, you might want to check with other insurance providers? Is it that you have certain days within the delivery date to buy those kind of policy?

2800, but....I also pushed at the same time to to reduce the money factor, saving me $50/month over 36 months. I could have liked pushed lower but my car that I have been waiting for 4 months for was 5 feet away telling me she needed to be driven home.

I wanted the piece of mind. With my S63 I went thru a few rims and tires so I think it is going to be worth it.

Not understanding this at all. As you will be able to buy a used wheel that was a takeoff for 1000 or so.

All warranties they sell are a rip off for the buyer and NOT for the dealer. Save your money and get wheel locks.

I’m not sure what wheel locks have to do with wheel and tire damage insurance. I may be missing something. I did not got into too much detail but I got the MSRP and money factor down with the insurance all in one deal. I came out way ahead.

Anyway, I have the car already. Thanks for the input.

The idea is use wheel locks to insure your wheels yourself. drive smart and forget about the silly money maker warranties the dealers sell.
