I did. Top model. While I think the car is ugly as sin I find myself liking it somehow. Always loved Bladerunner too.
But mostly I like the idea of bringing more concept vehicles to market without being watered down to boring production models. Exotics are the only cars these days that stay closest to concept. Likewise I would take the EQS Vision as-is...

I did as well the AWD. Tesla's website says: "Tri Motor AWD production is expected to begin in late 2022." So the earliest would be probably summer of 2023 which is 3.5 years from now. I'm sure there will be a lot of changes and it gives them time to fix the window glass. I will use that same ball on delivery to see if it passes the smash test at that time - lol. Elon looked like he was seething inside after that happened. You could see it in his face. Bet some heads rolled because of that after the event.

Damn you guys Thing isn't pretty, but it is interesting without a doubt. I kind of think the windows getting smashed was for publicity

I figured it was a joke that anyone was considering buying it tbh. How many of you currently own a truck that you use for truck duty activities?

I actually like the insanity of it all. Not in the market for a truck, but its nice that Tesla created a monster so I can enjoy seeing them on the road.
Specs are pretty remarkable for the price tbh, aside from all the quality issues that will plague the first batches lol.

For those that have put down deposits, what exactly is the point of giving them money 3+ years out, instead of waiting to judge the final product? Just the hype of it, or to say you have a deposit on it?

I have the 2015 Model S, 2018 Model X (one that required them to buy back because of Falcon doors constantly getting stuck and had to get towed twice) and 2019 Model 3. From my experience with Tesla, Musk is always overpromising and under-delivering. Expect whatever he says to be delayed.

I'm not being negative, just realistic, dont take offense to my honest question about throwing money at something that's years away.

I grew up in the 80s when movie makers thought this is what cars are gonna look like in the year 2000. We were also promised flying cars and what not. Cars/trucks don't look like this even in 2020 and we are still waiting for flying cars. I'm with Doug that I thought this was a big joke. Styling aside, though, I'll be curious about real world range if you actually use this thing for truck duties and tow 10000+ lbs. As many Tesla owners have found, towing with their Tesla severely cuts the range. I watched a YouTube video not too long ago where somebody tried to tow with a Model X across the country and they had to give up, because they couldn't make the distance to the next supercharger in rural America. Towing capacity is one thing, but if you can't get to where you need to go it's meaningless. The drag of a trailer is massive and it's killing battery range like nothing else. Add cold winter temperatures to it if you need to tow in the winter and using this thing for truck duties will be tough. A $100 refundable deposit is nothing, but I'm not sure what it's gonna get you. I had a friend who put down the $1000 deposit for a Model 3, but by the time he could actually order one, pretty much anybody could order a Model 3. As with other cars, it's a good idea to wait out the first model year anyway.

You guys overthink this whole thing. To even discuss $100 deposit makes me wonder. Spent much more money on horrible meals where I wish I could get my money back.
I am not with Doug. The guys is an idiot. Comparing base prices of cars also makes little sense when you can barely upgrade a Tesla but easily double the price of a Ford F-150 by just ticking a few boxes.
The Cybertruck design is polarizing and I don't mind it that way. Don't care for the looks or trucks in general but I like a company to be bold and take a chance.
As for EV's in general, I look at the potential, not the short comings. Love ICE's for the sound and driving experience but EV's have inherent technical advantages that ICE'c won't be able to overcome. Once solid state batteries are here, the discussion will be over.

Makes you wonder what exactly? I can only imagine what you are implying, even though you've clearly missed the very simple idea being discussed in relation to the deposit, which is the principle of it. On the topic of discussion, this is a forum, that's what you do, you discuss things.
3 boxes ticked on the model 3 and you're looking at $26k over base price. 5 boxes ticked on a model S and you're looking at $35k over base.
You sure are a condescending fellow.

You must be overly sensitive. Nothing of the kind was implied...
I thought I answered your question directly. Of course it makes zero sense to make a deposit years out but it sends a message to the manufacturer (via reservation count) that I appreciate bold steps. This is what I did.
Different story when dealers request a $2500 or larger deposit on putting a name down on future cars that they may never see an allocation for (AMG GT BS) or some $50k on a Tesla roadster that may never materialize. On $100? Who cares...
In regards to the options on Tesla, let's be real. These are different models. It's not like you could build an AMG GT and by checking options make a GTR out of it. It just becomes a well spec'd GT...

I didn't put any money down on my Model 3, but when I decided to buy it I had it in 2 days delivered to my front door.
