Getting a used GT S

Hi all!

I've previously owned a C63 Coupé -17 which I loved, unfortunately I decided to sell it and got a Cadillac CTS-V and a BMW M4 which was a bad decision, both were horrible cars.

Since there is very few C63S Coupés for sale where I live (Northern Europe, seriously like 5 of them for sale currently) I've been looking at AMG GT S which are starting to come down at reasonable price levels.

As I am not very familiar with those cars, what are the must-have options and what should I look out for?
Thankful for all advices

Edit;

I guess a good piece of information would be

-Will not be used for daily driving
-Will not be used for track driving

If anyone has owned both the C63 and the AMG GT, please give your point of view on pros and cons

Of course the more options and the lower the price is better. The only performance oriented option is Dynamic Plus option. The rest are pretty much cosmetic.

I was ambivalent on the Dynamic Package Plus (but wanted it if I could). What is important personally varies by person, but I try to at least consider desirable items for resale/optimal combinations as well for the time resale comes up. Thus, I wanted the Burmester High End (absolutely worth it vs standard, and much more palatable second hand than the 4500 brand new option), no panoramic roof (a little more unusual, a little less weight), black pack (US specific I think?), and was very particular on interior color...I wanted the saddle as it is tough to come by in the US and I personally loved it.

I think in europe they had two seat options, definitely go for the performance seats if you can.

Honestly I'm a bit confused here -the one I've been looking at does not have the DPP (which does not seem to common on Sweden-sold vehicles), it does however have the Track Pack which contains dynamic engine mounts and on top of that it has this option (479 ADJUSTABLE SUSPENSION). Is that basically the same as DPP? I've seen imports for sale in Sweden which does have DPP.

Regarding the Panoramic roof (which you do not prefer), is it firm or can you tilt/open it?

Track Package is basically the same thing may be minus the steering tuning. Panoramic roof is fixed glass and can not be removed or tilted.

Very good option package. The carbon ceramic braking system is nice$$$$$. Now the 22p is Lane Tracking option and has nothing to do with Dynamic Plus. Cars with Dynamic Plus have yellow accent lighting around the numbers in the gage cluster.

Well damn.. Would it be a mistake to not get one with the DPP?

If it is not offered in your country then I don't know if you have a choice.

The carbon brakes are a nice option as they don't dust, last a long time, and look spectacular. They do need a bit of heat in them in my experience.

I have a track-only mini, so I may only track my GTS a few times for the experience, but if I were to track often, I would go for the steel brakes. It does seem in the US that the carbon brakes help will resale price

Looks like a very nicely spec’d car which isn’t always the case in Europe and the CCB’s are a nice bonus ($9k option).Take them over steels any of the week.
Car will stay cleaner and they brake well.

Good luck!

It appears that I was wrong; it is in fact available.
For those of you who know, how big of a difference is the driving experience in a DPP compared to a non-DPP car?

Agreed, they do look very nice but I will never track the car and I'm not really a street-racer either, but it seems to be a good option to have once it is time to sell the car since somebody may want to track it in the future..

Agreed! Would just have preferred a different interior color (it's semi-black semi-gray).

Mercedes has now confirmed that the car has "479 - AMG Ride Control sport chassis" - is that the main thing in DPP?

The code for DPP is P71 and in America it includes a full Dinamica steering wheel with stitching.

Thank you for taking the time to reply - but except the Adaptive Chassis and Dinamica steering wheel - is there anything else in DPP?
Otherwise I assume that I am not missing out on anything else except the Dinamica cloth.

The AMG DYNAMIC PLUS Package lends the vehicle further enhanced driving dynamics and even sportier handling. In addition to dynamic engine and transmission mounts, it offers a more firmly tuned sports suspension, special steering tuning, and a special engine application.

In the "Race" drive program and in manual mode "M", performance-oriented software settings are applied, which deliver even better response and optimised handling. In the interior the AMG Performance steering wheel trimmed in DINAMICA microfibre and yellow highlights in the instrument cluster round off the AMG DYNAMIC PLUS Package.

Hi folks,

Sorry for hijacking this thread but I am a visitor from the C63 forum and am considering a GTs but have not found one to my liking quite yet. Only a matter if time.

Aside from the options question posed by the OP, any years to avoid (like the C63 such as pre-facelift, head bolt issue prior to mid 2011, etc)... How about the GT?

I am thinking 2017 but I recall reading some mentions on the C63 forum about headaches with the early GTs.

Any thoughts/advice for me as I continue the search?

There is a recall campaign to replace a faulty camshaft on some 2016 models. Other than that no known issues other than sporadic flukes here and there. Solid car in any configuration.

The dynamic performance package also has some digital gauges that you can bring up on COMMAND screen. In looking at the option list, the car in question seems to have and option called M014 ENGINE INCREASED PERFORMANCE which sounds like the one of the dpp features. So maybe the car has all the individual options of the dpp but marketed differently in rest of the world vs US.

That is not Dynamic Plus.

It is the propshaft/driveshaft, and for what it is worth, a part that was subcontracted. It was really only effecting early production and they had a proactive TSB on it, but they have since recently expanded. Mine is a bit later production for the first MY and I just had it done.

Yes... but replacement rotors will run you about $20K for two... and a rock could chip one, which will require both sides to be replaced.

Take note: Premium sound does NOT mean Surround Sound. There is a very big difference.
Also, Make sure there is a hub cap removal tool in with the flat tire repair kit or you will have a heck of a time finding one if you have a flat,
