Akrapovic exhaust - just purchased 2016 AMG GTS

Just purchased my 2016 AMG GTS and looking for the best exhaust for sound. I hear the best is Akrapovic and happy to spend the money, the car deserves it if the Akrapovic exhaust is the best. Has any one installed this exhaust? Any sound examples you can share and comments?

I have two side mufflers and a center muffler on my RS. Did the center muffler bypass with the Akrapovic Slip-On Race Line (Titanium) exhaust and tips. Quality is impeccable as I had expected. I know it cost more but it was worth it to me. I liked the fact that it bolted up to the factory location and there is no denying the research and development that Akrapovic does. They even have their own titanium foundry. Let's talk sound. It has a nice rich tone to me. It sounds awesome on startup and up into the rev range and there are finally some nice sounds on higher rpm downshifts. This was the main thing that I was looking for in the first place. I'd guess it's close to 25-30% louder than stock.

Beautiful car and an impeccable taste in color. I'd suggest to drive it around with the exhaust valves open for a while and get a feel for it before spending any money that you may not get back when you sell. And DO NOT put that aero kit on.

Don't buy anything until you remove the rear shrouding to expose exhaust. With valves open is straight through.the only time it will have a different tone is with valves closed when you want it quiet.
I always put ex systems on cars, but not this time. Went with cleaning out rear cats and achieved a much better sound and no lag at all.
Spend money on tires and rims instead.

A little sheet metal work involved.

Waste of money , looks nice but covered by shroud.

Forgeline ga1r rims with factory emblem machined in. 6k from Gerry @ custom wheels for less

Hey there, would you please explain for me what's in this picture? What do you mean by removing the rear shrouding? Is this where the rear cats were?

Hello , no prob. The picture shows the secondary cats which are just forward of the seats. Most people cut those out and replace with a section of pipe. Due to long winters here in buffalo I had some time to take the long way and cut open and clean out.
The shrouding starts about halfway back of car and totally covers exhaust.never saw nothing like it.get car up in air and you'll see it.

Whoah, thanks! And so your exhaust is just dumping right in front of the seats?

I think what he's saying is....

If you were to get a look at the exhaust system on this car (with it on a lift and the shrouding off), you would not want to "waste" money on a high dollar aftermarket exhaust. Once you either remove or gut the cats, it's already straight through with the valves upon. Not much to be gained by going to an aftermarket exhaust.

The pic is showing that he gutted out his cats instead of just cutting them out and replacing them with piping like most people do.

cliffs: get the secondary cats removed instead of buying an expensive exhaust

Kumizi is spot on with his answer. Sometimes throwing mucho money on aftermarket stuff doesn't always achieve good results.
The car would sound terrible just dumping out of the openings.

Great wheels, they look like the optional ones for C63S.
Are the 19" all around?

Definitely under consideration if and when I get my 2020 E63S (current production hold) which is being spec'd with the CCB option. I'm probably going 20" around since that's the spec so the Forgelines seem to be the best way to go as the similar OEM (for other AMG models) is 19/20. Some Black Series models had similar wheels which I found attractive.

They are great wheels. Had them on a previous car. It seems like half the Porsche track guys run them.

In regards to quality it's not even a discussion - Akrapovic is the best & by far. Over the years I have had some clients who wished the Akra was a bit louder but that's what they've come to be known for. A product that will last forever, looks like art, & with a conservative bump in sound.

If you want to lean more towards an exhaust that goes all out with the sound then that will be iPE (video attached below).

I can help answer any questions you have about either exhaust. Congrats on the AMG GTS! David@WheelsBoutique.com

The IPE system video honestly sounds identical to how the exhaust sounds with a 2nd cat delete.

You will only get codes with you replace the downpipes, not from cutting out the 2ndary cats. But yes, they just cut it out and weld in new pipe. Took my shop 30mins.

Noticeably louder, and slightly lower pitch. Also, kind of nit picky, but you may want to take caps lock off.
