After 4 months, I am told I will not be getting an allocation! (GTC Roadster)

So I spec'd and ordered my GTC Roadster about 4 months ago and was told I would get an allocation in January. I was just informed that I will not be getting one now! This is such BS! I know there are ones sitting on dealers lot's but none are spec's the way I wanted mine. These cars are nice but they are not that special and the GTC is not a limited run. For how hard these cars depreciate, I want one built the way I want it. My Ferrari 812 Superfast was spec'd in November of 2018 and I received it in August 2019. That is a much harder car to get allocated but since I already owned a Ferrari, I got a slot. I already own an AMG as well but I guess that doesn't matter.

Also my dealer is telling me that there are zero changeable allocations renaming for the GTCA for 2020. Not sure when 2021's will be built or if they will even offer the car in 2021.

Needless to say, I'm not happy with AMG right now and may jump ship to Porsche.

AMG
Is this a MB issue or a dealer issue?

Dealer claims it's a MB issue. Too many unsold ones sitting on lots. I think 100 or so.

I think MB is having a lot of problems with new emissions regulations, working its way down to allocations, etc. Sorry to hear. Hope you somehow get what you want for sure...

what were your specs?

how hard is it to find a similar one? I’m sure you can find one with your specs or better if you look or enlist your dealer.

extra items may be in other builds and the dealer may discount them. If something is missing , I’m sure they can addd it at little or no cost.

it’s like finding a wife.....you got get close to your options and then compromise. The basic cars are all the same. What’s the matter ? Cup holder wasn’t lined with feathers?

You could always try European Delivery. Those don't count against dealer allocations and what's on the lot. Added bonus you get to see where it's made and drive it on its home turf.

I waited nine months, and my dealer never told me that they couldn't get an allocation, just that "They're not making that car right now," and, "You probably ordered options that they cannot fulfill." Both lies, obviously.
I finally found a used one, on this forum, with < 6K miles and all of the major stuff I wanted, and ended up saving about $50K.

When I took it to the dealer for service, the woman writing up my ticket asked, "So, you bought it here?"
"I tried to!" was my response.

I am reposting this so you have a better understanding of what happened to you.

Ok I’ll outline MY UNDERSTANDING of the process for ordering high demand Mercedes cars;

1. CONTRACT LAW 101 - Go to your dealer GM and offer to buy the GT.
2. Obtain a written and signed order by the GM or Sales Manager along with an agreed deposit (Customer/Buyer Offered and Dealer accepted)

3. It is very important for you to know and understand the following;

A dealer order is just that an order that the dealer will sell you a car IF they have or will receive it.
ALL OFFICIAL ORDERS CAN ONLY BE MADE ONLINE BY THE DEALER AND OFFICIALLY ACCEPTED BY THE AMG FACTORY.
All factory accepted orders are IMMEDIATELY assigned an order number that the factory and dealer use to track the build/ship process in the MB computer system at the plant in Germany.
IF YOU DON’T HAVE A ORDER NUMBER AND FACTORY ACCEPTANCE ON YOUR INITIAL DEALER ORDER YOU DON’T HAVE A CAR ON ORDER!!
The Factory order system by model is opened and closed at the factory’s decision.

A TEACHABLE MOMENT - - I think you can now see that your dealer outright lied to you for 4 months hoping to get a build slot or trade for one.

ALSO, Please remember;
The build process takes about 4-6weeks from official start to finish and can be tracked through your dealer using your order number.
Unless things change radically for the better, plan on your completed car sitting at the MB VPC for another several months until the government plays nice and releases the car for delivery. (My GTR sat for over 7 months in the US less than 1 hour away before I could finally take delivery and buy it).

FWIW: Porsche and many other foreign imports experience the same delays year after year as well.

GOOD LUCK and I hope all of this insite helps.

There are currently 236 brand new GTC Roadsters for sale on Autotrader, out of 580 new GTs in total. Hard to believe not one of those 236 matches the desired spec, especially since there are only a handful of options.

MB definitely over-produced in 2019, which is why they’ve cut back on 2020s...

If you looks closely there are really only 2-3 variations of GTC, dealers ordered "Recommended specs" from DOG file provided by MBUSA. Basically all 236 GTC cars are the same.

Oh I see. What’s the key missing option that you want?

In Canada, dynamic engine and transmission mounts are often not ordered, but I would consider key to have. But I think in the US these are standard on the GT C.
Extended carbon trim is probably also a must have, although the cost is a rip off.
