Track Day at Daytona

I had the opportunity to take a track day at Daytona in December. We did the road course. It was an incredible experience, especially on the banked turns. It was funny that there were more Ford GT's (3) than AMG GT variants (just me).

Beautiful pics! Hope to get mine out to Auto Club Speedway here in SoCal, which also has the NASCAR banking as part of its road course.

How stable did the car feel in the banking? I'll be coming from a 911 GT3, which boasted significantly more aero!

Hey Im on the Space Coast. Did you register through Chin Track Days. I would love to take a stab at one of these events. Funny you mentioned the banked track. I had my gtc on the Atlanta Speedway two times at the end of the Motorama Show. The speeds were moderate 40 to 70mph and both times I had it on the track it set off my traction control system lights. I suspect that the banks confused the computer at the slower speeds. If I were going fast I bet the lights would not have come on.

Mind you that was the only time the lights have ever come on with my car and they went off shortly after leaving the track.

The car felt rock solid. In the banks, you feel the G's compressing you into your seat, so you are getting a lot of grip. Passing on the high side, the wall did feel closer than it was.

It was organized by Audi Club, but there were only a few Audis. I joined through Hooked On Driving, but it seemed there were lots of other groups there so Chin might have worked too. One of the run groups was for International GT cars, so I had one of the few DD cars there.

I would get down to about 70-80 at the end of cool down coming off of NASCAR 4 heading toward the pit entrance, but none of my warning lights came on. I suspect the car is happier going faster on the banks.

Do you have brake cooling ducts installed? If not, think about getting some as they will serve you well on that track.

Great pix btw
