Muffler Delete

I read that a few guys swear by deleting the Resonator saying its a good first mod but has anyone deleted the muffler? Would the sound be equivalent to running the sport exhaust at ON (valve open) all the time?

is it now? muffler delete in this forum shows 7 results. 1 of the 7 actually mentions a muffler delete not including this one. the reply was about gle63 muffler delete. I'm asking for a GT, if anyone has actually done it.

If you want it to sound like the valves are open all the time, you could run something like the Renntech EVM, and just leave the valves open all the time!

But don't buy it from Renntech, they are just rebranding someone else's product and charging double.

If you want to go that route, shoot me a pm and I can let you know how to bypass their forced restriction on shipping to the US.

Removing the muffler is a bad idea. It will sound terrible - like a Honda Civic with no muffler. Does your GT not have the exhaust button? Why would you want to replicate the sound running with the exhaust on all the time and not just press the button?!

It does not have a button. Someone has also mentioned that on the GT there might not even be a valve to open so adding a remote won't do anything.
I do see aftermarket exhaust for sale that do not have a muffler in their setup (its way overpriced) that is why I am asking this question here.

AMG has several engineers that do nothing but work on exhaust to be able to get the best sounding we ate out there. Mufflers do a lot more than reduce sound.

just remove the secondary cats and see where you’re at.

In this case, yes, a muffler delete should accomplish the same results as the EVM, and a secondary cat delete would take it up another level.

Agreed. I also have a Cayman GTS with the same sport exhaust button. I wouldn't dare touch the exhaust perfection on it. I didn't think I would miss the sport exhaust on the GT when I bought it because of the loud V8 but now I do. Now I'm trying to fix it. Just trying to get the best option to go about it.

I recently purchased a GTC, do you mind sharing with me how to bypass the forced restriction?
And, what would I accomplish by doing so? What is the downfall if any?

I don't think the GTS has resonators and what you removed was the secondary cats. I did the same and i hear a rattle with the valves open as well.

Ah yes. You are a good man and correct. I went to dealer and drove with the AMG tech in a brand new GTC and it also has the same rattle. Apparently it's a thing with the valves open.

It’s certainly not normal. My GTC does not have an exhaust rattle. I think you’ll find it has happened in a small handful of cars.

My car is stock but I have the exhaust valve module

And I hear a bit of a metallic rattle sound near idle. Not fussed about it. Will have it looked at the next service.

I think it is more of an issue in the 2020s. Mine is finally fixed after 14 months of MB telling me there was no fix at the time.
Funny enough it took me switching dealerships to finally solve the problem so maybe not so much MB but ****ty service.
