Smile New carbon fiber accents on my Edition 1

So, I had some fun with my Edition 1 today. I love the look of carbon fiber ... but not so much the price. I'm lucky enough to live close (Seattle area) to a very skilled dude named Mark Wu, of Wu Wraps. He did an amazing job wrapping all the black aero parts of the Edition 1, plus some extra bits like the wheels. Turned out really great ... I'm so happy with the outcome. Black chrome smoked all emblems, and cf wrapped everything I could. I am REALLY enjoying this car, so far. I've had it for about a month ... coming off of a 911 Turbo S Cabriolet and a Ferrari 430 F1 Spider. There are MANY things about this car that make it my favorite toy yet.

For those of you in the great PNW, I can't recommend Mark Wu highly enough. One man band that works out of his home, and he is really an artist.

I had one of those when they first came out. Great ride and I really like the mods you’ve done.

Thanks

Thanks, guys ... The car is just a ton of fun. Really glad I picked it up. Mercedes did a great job on this one. The car I had right before this was a 2013 SL550, and I loved that car too. But this one is really something.

Would you happen to know if he removed the door handle piece to wrap it? Can it be removed? Looking at doing something similar myself. Looks great!

No need - just wrapped in place if you have a skilled person. Not a single scratch found on the car, either.

Thanks for sharing the pictures. How did he get the texture in the finish out of the lower factory aero pieces, or is it still noticeable?

Hi dlefty, I can see it if I look REALLY close, and I knew it was there. The film is pretty thick and gloss finish, which hides about 90% of it, though.

Looks very skillfully done! Nice mod! How do the wheels hold up being wrapped?

looks great. Do you know what type/brand of CF wrap he used? I would like to do the same, but wish it had more gloss and more depth.
Time for some lowering springs and the car would be purrrrrrrfect!

Thanks ... I'd love the lowering springs for the look, but work about further compromises on ride quality or tire life.

Hi Charged, the cf that Wu Wraps used was the Nemesis black gloss cf. It comes in Matte, satin, gloss, and high gloss. So, you could go with the high gloss if you wanted. I saw it and it was so shiny, it looked "fake" to me. The gloss was the closest one to looking like real cf. As for the depth, I think the only way to get more depth is to get your checkbook out and do the "real thing". At least at this point. I do think the wraps will continue to get better, with time. This wrap was expensive ... I think Mark Wu said it was like $160 for a 5x5 sheet of it, so you don't want to make too many mistakes

Hi, thanks! As for the wheels, my plan is to ceramic coat them to protect everything. It is REALLY on there, and it should be fine. If it does indeed melt from excessive heat (like on track days) I'll let you know. I don't plan to track the car ... so for everyday stuff, it should be ok. The biggest enemy of any wrap is UV, so the ceramic coat should help.
