Rear wing for convertible

Hi all,
Not real fancy nor sophisticated when it comes to this. Was wanting to add a rear CF wing to my 2018 GT convertible. Not real excited about deactivating the automatic spoiler. I saw an entire thread on that one lol.

Thank you,

Roy.

There is a really good GTR replica coming out of China but its all form factor for the Coupe - nothing that I have found for the roadster...total bummer

that looks like a factory site, which it is availablde, but it's about 7K USD. The replica is about 800.00 and looks identical - just the base for the roadster is completely different from the coupe.

just an update here - I have sourced the OEM parts for the GTR wing option - totals under 3500 shipped - there is paint to consider so likely 4000 when its said and done. So far as I can see this is the only option for a Roadster. If you want the part numbers, let me know - will try and do a step by step for install because there will be some wiring considerations etc. to get it to work correctly.

The aftermarket replicas for the coupe are coming in around 2000 so its double BUT its OEM so the quality, fit and finish should be flawless.

finally installing this week - CF wing has been on black order...not a single one available globally. Deck mount has been painted and its really just a matter of taking out the stock articulating set up and then putting the mount in after - everything is pretty much plug and play; just having to wire the new brake light; the existing one is not compatible.

install Video?

Great job in the spoiler! looks awesome. Would you happen to have a install video or tips for those that would like to do the same?

Really appreciated in advance.

The CF version of the wing is shipping out today and should be on my doorstep before the weekend. It will be my first, but I will do my best at putting together a step-by-step.

its done...very easy job to swap out - any questions feel free to PM. I didn't do a step by step pic set because I took it on as a solo project and the wing isn't heavy but needs both hands to navigate onto the car.

The key is the set up needs to be put together on a table first and then the complete set up is mounted to the car. The reason being the 3rd brake light - the wing doesn't come pre-wired and the base is a clam shell between the top and bottom there are 12 machine screws clamping it together. So, you fish wire through the wing and then the base. The base also clamps the wire down when it's screwed together so no play to work with - best to pull extra through the brake light opening as the overage can be tucked back into the wing. One more notable that is in most of the other tutorials - make sure you tie off or block the water run off tubes of it will be leaking water into your trunk liner.

The real struggle is access to parts - the CF wing was ordered in May and only arrived on Thursday. The are aware of the global shortage and likely addressed it. That said, with only 750 cars built with this config, I think it will be constantly in short supply. Also, from what I had learned about the mounting points on a GTR coupe they are different so the wings aren't interchangeable.

Hope this helps everyone considering the option.

no problems with electrics, just two considerations that need addressing:

1. you need to bypass the articulating spoiler with this part that @ronac designed and now sells.
2. the brake light for the Roadster is in the CF wing so you have to rewire by extending from the original factory routing (in the trunk). The brake light doesnt come with the spoiler and the version in the trunk doesn't fit - you will need part#: A197-820-03-56. It should cost $117.00

the drain plugs are kind of useless. The lead back to two reservoirs for water to sit and evaporate. I zip tied off the hoses and then covered the drain entrance (at the back of the spoiler indent on the trunk there is a small pencil sized opening). The new base has a gasket that will protect the car from any water leaking into the trunk compartment.

can't be done correctly without moving the exhaust over too.... @RW Carbon something to think about in your reverse engineering project with the GTC you have! The design of the GTR diffuser with the venturi tubes would be great to incorporate into a regular GT version. Nothing out there in the market at the moment; just OEM or copies of RENNtech and other aftermarkets with a series of fins.

There are some used GTR diffuses on ebay that might help with test fit and design - some are pretty cheap due to damage (cracks in the CF)

Yes changing the GT C Diffusor to gt r would be great, but the prices incl. exhaust are nearly about 10k 🤯

Today my parts arrived at my dealer here in Germany, except the spoiler itself (number 700) which is on backorder, should be there in about a month

What are the part numbers 500- 530? Is that a smaller spoiler?

You also had that dent on parts 600 + 640? If so for what are they?

Thanks Paul

the indentation in the back is for water drain - in the indent on the car, you will find a rubber grommet and hole - make sure you plug it or you will invite water into your trunk (or boot).

The brake light is A 197 820 03 56 - it does not come with wiring, so you will have to extend your current brake light wire (its not long enough to trace back up into the wing).

FYI - for the spoiler itself, I waited 4 months. They initially told me 1 month as well - this is a typical response. Be ready for much longer. They have a supplier out of Germany that makes the parts bespoke for Mercedes and if they are out of stock again, that means that it will take some time for them to get a new order fulfilled.

Thanks for the infomartions + parts number! Okay I will extend the brake light wire.
Got to know with the delay, so let's see how long I will have to wait for the spoiler itself, in Germany now starts winter season until ~ march so I'm not in a hurry.

So on your explosive parts picture for what are those 500+ 510 + 520 + 530 ? Is that another spoiler?

it is, but those parts are unavailable - 510, 520, and 530 dont even show part numbers within Xentry. 500 is the carbon finished in gloss black (like the Pro), but it doesnt come complete like part 700.
