Has anyone put PPF On the Distronic Star
On the front of your cars? I had my entire front end done and they wouldn’t do it. They said it would likely interfere with the sensors. I’m not overly fussed about it but I admit I am having a hard time understanding how a piece of clear film would interfere with anything.

Some have tried it I believe with the expected results. It will interfere. I suppose you don't have an engineering degree, but radar works by sending out a signal and then the signal gets reflected by obstacles in front of the car and the reflection is sent back to the car. Then based on how long it took for the signal to arrive back at the car, it can calculate the distance to the obstacle. PPF, dirt etc. in front of the star can reflect or degrade such signals, because it has to transition through different materials and that causes some of the signal to reflect and confuse the radar sensor. BTW, this is why the 3D star gets replaced by a plastic cover and a painted star in the first place. Having an actual star there would also interfere even if it's made of plastic. It's just like light traveling through a piece of glass. Some of it reflects and that's why you get things like glare from the windshield, or you may have experienced that your Wi-Fi signal doesn't reach every corner of your home, because it has difficulty getting through some of your wall materials.

I have PPF over it - haven't ever tested distrionic though.
My installer warned that the PPF doesn't grip as much on that surface though and it has peeled off before.

I had our detailer put PPF over the Distronic star on my GLE about a month ago. Actually he had suggested it given its surface area and relatively vertical surface. I've used the Distronic several times since and haven't had any problems. I wouldn't imagine it will cause many issues given the optical clarity on the new films.

I put 3M Pro PPF on the "star" of both our C43 and the GTR Pro with no observed differences (over multiple years). In both cases, the "star" was ceramic coated prior to the PPF installation and then the PPF was ceramic coated after I later installed the PPF. It remains stuck perfectly well to the "star." YMMV.

This topic has been covered ad noseum on W213 forum while back. The bottom line is we don’t want to be penny wise and pound foolish. By covering the star and sensor to save few $$$s one can end up in $1000s of damage (in the best case).
