JSK Racing GTR CF Wing Review

Got some time today to open up and install the new JSK Racing GTR Style CF Spoiler. Cost me a little over $1k after shipping. Initially, the wing looked pretty good. Then I started to install it... The first problem was mounting it to the car. After removing the factory retractable spoiler, I removed the base plate from it so it could be used to mount the new spoiler. Well, there are only four mounting holes on the JSK spoiler, and not a single hole on my factory base plate. So, I made a template in order to locate four new holes to be drilled into the factory base plate. Luckily, got it done and everything lined up. Moving on. There are two machined metal fixtures that attach the wing to the base of the new spoiler. They supplied some button head screws for this. Couple issues here.. first the 4 tapped holes on the spoiler did not match up with the holes on the fixture. On top of that, the area where the screws would bottom out on the fixture and secure the wing is curved. On top of that there was no counterbore for the screws to sit flat on the curved surface. So even if all the holes did line up, the screw would hit the high side and not be able to sit flush. In the picture are some screws I purchased to try and "improve" the situation. Even with countersunk screws, they still sit a good bit above the fixture surface, but a few did sit down decently. After settling on what I figured was the best I could do with what I had available, I kept trucking. I wired the brake light in the spoiler to the brake light above the rear window, no issues. Works fine. The overall finish off the piece is rather poor. It is very wavy and uneven. There are "stains" of some type where the light fixture is. I tried multiple things to remove and polish the area with no success. The base itself does not span the entire area that the factory spoiler did. There is about an 1/8"+ gap on each side. Overall, pretty disappointed with the product. Not something I am proud to put on a vehicle like this, but I will say I got what I paid for. I disregarded my of my time tested saying... "you buy cheap, you buy twice".

I mean yea... If you just walked by or saw it drive by, sure it looks great. If you get up close and actually look at it and you know what CF should look like, and look at the hardware securing it, you will quickly realize that this is some cheap version of what should be on here. I have not seen a DarwinPro in person, so I can not say, but I would like to believe that you get a higher level of fit and finish for the extra 1k you are throwing down. I would not buy this one again.

Thanks for the honest review! The Darwin Pro reviews are for sure more favorable on first scan, but that option isn't too much different than the cost of OEM so I would expect the quality to be much better too.

Thanks for the input.
The old saying, "you get what you pay forp comes to mind.
This might be a go for someone with a GT or GTS they just paid $65K for.

Yes ,I tried going cheaper before on many cf pieces before and always regretted it.bad fit up , not quite right radius and overall cheap pieces.
apr is known for this, after the last front splitter debacle , never ever again cheap out on sub-par carbon..

a few other guys have the JSK spoiler, they didn't mention any issues. Personally i dont like how the darwin pro spoiler looks. The end plates are too big, the spoiler sits too high and the wing itself is kind of narrow. The JSK wing replicates the GT R wing better. Mine should be here within the next couple of weeks so I guess Ill see for myself. I had the Darwin Pro on for a couple of months but I took it off and sold it.

Yea... I even talked to one of them. Surprised he hasn't chimed in yet, but I have my suspicions as to why they didn't say anything. The design of the spoiler is great. Love the way it sits. Its just the little details and finish that kills it. Hopefully you have a better experience than I did. Once I get back to my shop in GA, I am going to fix the metal fixtures with a nice counterbore so everything can sit flat and flush.

If the majority of the poor weave is on the base or the arms, will you consider painting them body color and leave the top of the spoiler in carbon?

I tapped into the brake light above the rear window.

I am not sure on this, but I know the convertible has a different wing all together.

Unfortunately it is mostly the top of the wing that has all the wave in it. If you paint it I would imagine it wouldn't look much better unless you did some filler work on it to smooth things out. I have the CF exterior trim package so I wanted to have it exposed.

Mine did not have the same issues, also, when we spoke you mentioned that the bottom plate was different than mine, I wonder if it is the actual same wing, also I do know they make them to order as well. they have very good customer service and if you let them know what your issues are they will correct it. I have seen 3 wing and carbon side skirt setups on 3 different Gt's and they were fine.

Looking closely at the OEM carbon fiber on the rear diffuser and comparing it to the JSK wing - it would seem that the weave does not match up - @KFactor What is your assessment of the weave pattern and how well it matches with OEM?

From the close ups, its worlds apart in pattern and color. It doesn't even match the other products that RW have available (diffuser etc) which suggests they aren't in house development.

Thanks Skilly for your insights. I guess my best option is go OEM.

The good news for you here is that code has been cracked for both the Coupe and the Roadster - there are people on line charging 5000 to sell it as a package hoping that you are too lazy to search out the parts. This link has them all listed:

https://mbworld.org/forums/coupe-roa...er-search.html

best parts pricing and sourcing that I came up with was through MB of Covington. Every single part in the list was far cheaper than anything else I could find - the list for my Roadster came out to just over $3600 complete/shipped....and of course, that's OEM.

The pattern appears to be the same, it is the size of the individual carbon strands that make up the weave that appear to be a bit larger on the wing than the factory CF. If that makes any sense. You would have to really look closely if you wanted to tell the difference between the two. I am some what of a perfectionist unfortunately, and it is not something I noticed until it was brought up. So the difference is minimal enough for me to accept.

I custom ordered a wing from jsk and exact same issues. I'm not totally happy either but will keep the wing on and enjoy it as it is.
I priced out an OEM wing and its about 4 times more expensive here in Canada. I plan to keep the car for 3 years and sell it so not worth dropping that much where my residual value on the wing will be close to $0.
Good thing is, the install was relatively easy (hardest part was alignment) and can easily revert back to stock. I didn't drill into the base plate and used the brackets holding the oem wing.
All in with Ronac plug to disable the oem wing is about $1700 cnd

Good supplier will pay attention to the seams in the carbon so they don't look that bad.
