Android Auto - Sporadic

2020 GTc, I find the android auto working only sporadically. Doesn't seem to always connect or recognize. More often the system connects Bluetooth. Anyone else having this issue?

2020 AMG GT R Roadster
Tried to connect to Android Auto when I got my GT R Roadster. Read the manuals and asked the dealer. They couldn't figure out why my Android phone wouldn't connect or activate Android Auto on the car. Even called MB USA and they had no answers. Went to dealer yesterday and they said they think car has a faulty usb port. I continued to search for the reason phone won't connect to car and then after extensive research on the MB website in the options section of the Build A Car screen, I found a disclaimer when selecting the touchpad option. If you select the touchpad option, this automatically deletes Android Auto from the car's system. Don't know why this has to be the case. Maybe there will be an update to correct the deletion of Android Auto from the car.

I think my issue maybe the USB cable. Have read you need a high quality latest USB version for the bandwidth and data transmission. Ordered a new one and will see if that clears it up

Make sure software is up to date

Comand system doesn’t keep up with latest amd greatest Android updates but there are frequent updates. I would ask the dealer if there are any as well.

2020 G550
2020 G550. I haven't been able to connect my Galaxy S9 for the past several months even though I have been using "the authentic" cable my phone came with. So far, I tried disabling Android Auto and clearing Andoid Auto's and Google Play Services' data and cache. After that, my phone gets detected by the system for a couple of minutes while the initial set up takes place; when the process is completed, the car's screen goes black and no apps appear. If I unplug my phone and immediately plug it back in, I see a message "Android auto could not be started" on the car's display. The interesting thing is that I can see my Benz in the app's list of connected cars. I also tried to uninstall the most recent Android Auto update but somehow the app updates itself during the initial setup. Ughh...
Apple Play works like a charm, OF COURSE
My phone works perfectly well with my Audi's Android Auto; therefore, Mercedes seems to be the problem. I don't see any available updates and feel like taking my car to the dealer over such a minor issue is a bit overboard. I also have a feeling the dealer won't be able to help.
Any suggestions? (No, I will not get an iPhone lol)

I spoke with MB North America and they contacted Germany. They confirmed that Android Auto is deleted on 2020 models when you option for the touch pad. There is no fix and apparently, there won't be a fix in the future. Have to switch to an Iphone and use Apple CarPlay. Waiting for the new Iphone in October to make the switch. $220K+ for a car that does not include the latest in electronics. A bit disappointed but it is only a phone.

Pathetic. After all... There are only 2.5 BILLION Android users in 190 countries worldwide. So they eliminate this tech for a whimsical and redundant plasticky touchpad?!

MB needs to update this...

I also have a 2016 GLE 350 and was wondering if anyone had any success with the OBD activation tools such as this one:
Amazon Amazon

I am trying to get Android Auto so any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!

EDIT: Sorry wrong thread but still interested if anyone ever used a similar OBD tool

AMG GTR
Hi,

As far as I know, this only works with the GT from Facelift 2019. (The models with display instead of pointer)
Here was the NTG 5.5 (manufacturer: Mitsubishi) installed. The software is apparently always there and can be activated.
That's why it works with the OBD dongle. Apple always works here. Android works with vehicles with a rotary / push button. Not with the middle touch panel.

Software is available and not activated even with the latest generation MBUX.
Funny: Here the entry-level A-Class is much more up-to-date than the GT. (and E-Class and .....and... )

In the "analog" GT, was NTG 5 or 5.1 (manufacturer: Harman / Kardon) installed. Allways a rotary / push button and simultaneously (almost always)a middle touch panel.
Apple / Android was never intended in the software.

Best regards

Stenzel
