As far as I'm aware, this is your only option.

or...for $5K you can update the entire Command System to the latest and greatest: This looks like a complete cost including install etc. I'm making that assumption because some of the other equipment that they sell (like the remote start from Mid City Eng.) is selling for what list price plus the hours to install would equate to.

https://www.mbhouse.ca/

I did the Joye option in a 2017 C63s that I owned - it was not worth it. Including install, it was around $800. Very glitchy - reverse camera wouldnt always connect and it struggled with incoming calls if CarPlay was active when the call came in. It was about a year ago, and might have gotten better; however, I turned it off and ripped it out.

It looks like they have a specific service just for CarPlay and Android Auto for $800, with options for adding a front camera, instead of having to do the entire retrofit for $5k. No clue if you have to send your car to them in Canada, or if they can instruct a local shop on how to install it.

You do get Siri by holding the Talk button on the steering wheel until you hear the Siri notification sound. With my iPhone mounted on the windshield and hands free Siri, I don’t miss CarPlay. I actually prefer to have 2 screens showing different things: like music on the car’s screen and navigation on the iPhone screen. And of course you can stream audio from the phone wirelessly.

With the digital instrument cluster on the newer cars you get two screens that can show different things. You can have CarPlay on the center screen and your music among other things in the instrument cluster. And with the new CarPlay Dashboard you can show different things even on CarPlay. You can see the map of your current navigation app, turn-by-turn instruction, the music that's playing on the phone and your upcoming calendar appointments for example. The iPhone screen itself can only show one app at the time.

I think this is from a BMW, but you get the idea. Takes full advantage of the modern widescreens.

This is ideal imo.

I called them about the Command update. For that one, you have to ship your car to them. The $5K is inclusive and takes a week. It voids the command warranty but not anything else, and they mirror the warranty to cover that. if their system for apple is the same as the Joye option pretty much any shop that does stereo work could do that integration.

I emailed them and received this response:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us.
Yes it is possible to retrofit the same cluster as the 2020 AMG GT.
Before we confirm pricing and availability please confirm that you have intention of bringing the car to our shop for the required services.

Thank you

Regards

I will update the thread when they let me know what the pricing is, but I may very well jump on this as I love the way the digital dash looks.

I don't think it's possible. This is the dealer trying to get you in above all else.

You have to also replace the steering wheel. You're better off selling the car and buying a 2020MY instead.

Yup - I have this in my 2019 G Wagon. It's nice if you can get the full screen Apple CarPlay, but I understand the 2020MY no longer show CarPlay in full screen.

It's not as good as having the iPhone with all of its native Apps and having Comand showing something else, in my opinion. The only real benefit is the battery charging.

If you can get a retrofit I highly recommend it. The digital dash is a game changer, IMO. I'm tired of inflexible analog clusters, especially the traditional two gauge kind. Always found the analog speedometer a waste of space and ineffective at quickly reading the exact current speed, which is really what I'm most interested in to avoid a ticket. I love the Supersport layout with the central rev gauge, easy to read gear indicator and digital speed readout and the customizable areas left and right to show different pieces of information for various situations.

The digital cluster and new COMAND system does go hand in hand with the new steering wheel, though. Both are controlled via the touch pads on the steering wheel. I believe you can retrofit the new steering wheel, but there's a conflict with the old CC/DISTRONIC stalk. The new cars have the CC/DISTRONIC controls on the steering wheel. I believe they'll be non-functional with a retrofit. I've also seen coding issues with the shift paddles. You won't be able to retrofit the awesome AMG Drive Unit, either.

CarPlay no longer being full screen is only an issue with MBUX. The 2020 GT like the G, C, PFL GT63, S, PFL E have NTG 5.5 (COMAND) which shows CarPlay full screen as shown below. This is actually why I'm kinda glad I don't have MBUX yet. I hope they fix this in newer versions.

It would appear that MBHouse does all of the above, BUT (big but intentionally) it is pricey and inconvenient unless you are local, even then, looking at the tally you really are better off considering a trade in:

1. will only do in house work - they don't have any affiliates. Canadian based too, so shipping your car there...have fun!
2. steering wheel retro - $3000
3. steering stock replacement $500
4. Command U/G - $5000
5. Gauge retro - $3000 (guestimate)

So that's $11,500 USD plus a couple of weeks of shop time, and shipping should you decide to go that route. Unless you are local, I'm not sure how you would even do that without having a broker manage it and then you would have to factor for duties and taxes for re-entry.

Yes, I did full retrofit. Digital cluster + 5.5 Command + Steering wheel (currently in transit, to be installed later) + Facelift headlights + Facelift taillights (received them yesterday, to be installed later).

with lighting Im guessing that tally is around $20,000 ish (easily more actually) - which is more than the delta between like for like 2018 to 2020. Any reason why you didnt take the upgrade route?

I paid around $10k for everything. And I'm selling (already sold some) original parts. So the total cost will be under $10k.. I wanted the 2018 because of the sound and I didn't want to mess with downpipes/exhaust on the 2020.

wait, you paid $10K for 2 screens, headlights, tail lights, wiring, steering wheel and programming/installation hours? That doesn't make sense. Can you break it down? Im guessing a lot of people would be interested in that deal, if only for the same reasons you had (sound). The headlights alone are closer to $5K just to purchase and then coding them and the car is highly specialized..

Exactly why I picked up 18 GTR for the sound, then going the upgrade route, I will only do the Digital cluster + 5.5 Command and maybe steering wheel?

I really don't see any point in retroing the headlights let alone the taillights?

Also thanks for the pics NYCSoiL much appreciated.

Most of the parts including headlights I purchased from a MB dealer at their cost. Steering wheel was also way below its MSRP. If it wasn't for my connections I probably wouldn't do everything. But MBHouse kit is definitely worth it!
