Thoughts on swapping out interiors from GTS to GT R

I've considered the GT R many times, but just don't get on with all black interiors, so I ended up with a Saddle Brown interior on a GTS. I've mulled over the idea of buying a GT R, and doing an interior panel swap, to get a GT R with full Saddle Brown interior, as only the dash would be much of a challenge.

Curious what the good folks here think this would do to the values, if anything, to the cars.

Black seems to be the most popular interior. I see this raising the value on a GTS slightly to the right buyer. As for the GTR, I think it not being OEM will make it lose a bit of value. IMHO.

You will decrease the value of each car, particularly the GTR.

You don't think that it being the only Saddle Brown interiored GT R coupe (potentially in the world) will combat that?

With out the dash exchange, it won’t look right. I think you would also need to do the center console/arm rest. The saddle brown is gorgeous IMO. But the use of alcantara is for grip and non slipping/sliding. Just different looks.

Your car is already looking perfect. The cost and headache may not pan out.

Am I missing something, or is the GTR not being produced in 2021 (at least for the North American market)? mbusa is only offering the GT and the GTC and no pricing at the moment. Also, I had thought that when the GTR was available you could spec Saddle with the Roadster.

Yeah, I would swap it all. Other than the dash, it's surprisingly easy to pop out all of the interior paneling, as I found out when wiring up my front/rear dashcams and such. And the trim with the traction knob is it's own piece as well.

Correct, they aren't offering it for 2021. And you are also correct that only the Roadster had the option of being specced with any other interior color besides black, but I'll likely never be able to bring myself to own a cloth top, just not to my taste.

you might want to bookmark this Ebay search - Germany has a TON of parts. 10x what you find in the US market. And, they tend to be reasonably priced. The have a bunch of complete interiors from parted cars, but nothing that I could see in Saddle:

https://www.ebay.de/sch/i.html?_from...c&_dcat=131090

Its where I sourced a virtually new set of GTR wheels & tires. Even after shipping it was cheaper than anything available in the NA market.

Saddle brown interior

This is what it looks like. This is the only magnetite black and saddle brown GTR roadster ever produced.

See, that looks awesome. Why didn't MB offer that as an option, so frustrating.

The GTR Roadsters do not have the knob but the traction control is electronically controlled from a button on the center console. You have comfort, sport, sport plus and race modes.

Saddle brown is the best interior IMO. For the right buyer, like me, that would increase the value of the GTR.

My guess is the people that say it will decrease the value are 50+ years old. Just a generational difference in perspective.

I'm right on the cusp and funny enough, my answer would be 'it depends'.

With the wrong exterior color and it can tank. I'm not a fan of the diamond stitch it comes along with, but I can see how some like it. This is what options are for in the first place...there's another thread about modifications more generally where opinions range from 'don't risk it' to 'make it your own'. I'm in the make it your own camp. It's focused on warranty but born from the same reasoning - making a car that is specific to your tastes. It does flirt with the idea of acceptable modifications though - and I like it! Moreover, what is considered aftermarket? The parts themselves or the fact that the car didn't come equipped as you end up modifying it...for example, I added a GTR wing to my GTC Roadster; it was never an option but the parts are all MB spec. To me, it's like the theme of this thread - I just fixed it with what Mercedes SHOULD have done. If you like it, do it!!

It will do little to change the value of the car, but if anything it will increase the value to you, which is the point in all of this!

So the GTR roadster doesnt have the knob like the GTR Coupe? Its the same in the roadster as it is in the rest of them? Weird.

I gotta ask, what happened to the side bolsters on the top part of the seats, look so warped. Or is it the picture.

Gorgeous car and of course the SB interior is the best Benz has to offer.

Its because of the row of buttons that are on the roof in the Couple have to be relocated to the spot where the lego is normally placed in a GTR - makes sense~

Yeah but traction control 9 stage adjustability is one of the major differentiations in R model.

Diamond stitch and R at odds IMO.

Yeah, I expected those responses tbf, as I've seen how many folks are adamantly against any modifications to these cars. That said, I am a bit shocked at how cheap the interiors are going for on Ebay, after looking through that link that Skilly shared. I think that if I went SBY GT R, then I might just hope for a SB interior to pop up on there instead, as I could see a lot of people hating SBY and SB combo when I went to sell.

I had saddle brown in my coupe. I have black in the roadster. Since they were both entry level GTs, the interiors were ok but not great. The interiors of the other models are so much nicer. And the saddle brown in the GTR is awesome.

Also, no hope of a 2021 GTR with Saddle interior either, given it looks like its not carrying forward for the model year
