OFF TOPIC DEFENDER V8

Can we allow some new discussion Wolf and Vic?

http://tracking.tenpubs.com/t?r=4035...=4035:32717111

It’s been slow around here and I thought I’d post this as I came very close to buying an SVR last year but it was too big. Now we have a cool new Defender announcement, and you can get it in two and four-door models, with the same V-8 as the RR SVR along with the torque vectoring, brakes and suspension upgrades directly from SVR. I know we all love the V8 experience.

The Carpathian edition looks awesome to me. So I’m not buying any more Benz, and looking for something new this year and it’s between this and a tri-motor Tesla Cyber. Thoughts?

You need one of these.......

Same motor as the GTR 577HP. It’s a lot of fun to drive and is fairly quick.

It’ll “smoke” that Rover.

Best Regards

Jerry

V8s are making a last gasp. Jeep 392, Lexus IS 5.0.

We could be looking back in the mirror here on these.

I'm not a fan of it. Why would they take an off-roader, give it 22's, bland paint options, and lower it? If I wanted a performance car, I wouldn't want it to be a softened-up SUV.

They are fine if you like big heavy boxes that cannot handle, I know I have owned them (neither lasted 6 months). I just bought a 2021 F pace SVR (should be here April 1st) faster (and RWD until you need AWD), handling is not even close, with a few mods you can turn it into a monster. RR and G wagons are great to go through snow (with the right tires) as drivers cars, they should not be mentioned in the same sentence a the F pace SVR. or the URIS (too flashy for me) or the DBX (which I thought would be better than it was) etc. Then again G wagon and the RR are trucks, so I guess they should handle like one.

You're right, there's probably no market for SUVs that never go off road.

That aside, I don't care what Land Rover calls this vehicle, to me it's just a new gen LR4.
As far as I'm concerned they wasted their most iconic nameplate

I LOVE heavy boxes that cannot handle. I'm on my 3rd Wrangler right now, and I've also had an FJ.

Totally agree, that’s why I got the G550. Best all-round car I’ve ever owned.
The G is an off road machine, it’s never going to be sporty, no matter how much power and how many AMG logos you throw at it.

Appreciate all of your feedback. Wasn’t planning on taking this to Baja and I’m not taking this truck to Road Atlanta either.

Again, thought it was cool that they’re dropping a supercharged V-8 in here, as the first version was a big snore as far as I’m concerned. Anyone who has ever driven an RR SVR, Would probably be surprised how neutral it handles and it’s a lot of fun to fling around, but way too big at the end of the day. New Defender 2 Door V8 seemed more viable as such.

That said, It’s 100K to start. And there are service issues. So no.

I hate the feel of the drive by wire brakes on the new Defender. If they got rid of that system it would be better, but for me they drive awful for the money. And I work at a Rover/Jag dealership.

My wife has an SVR; compared to a G550 ‘21, the RR is a very well dampened vehicle. It also does not have the body roll of the G550. I have not driven the G63, (and now may not get to do it for another year and a half with this delay) but found the driving characteristics of the SVR superior to the Mercedes.
I am in no way trying to badmouth, I am looking forward to getting the G 63, but we will not be getting rid of the SVR.
anyone who has driven both, can you comment on driving dynamics?
I will put a deposit on the defender V8 but our dealer is not an SV dealership, and I was told new cars will not be available for a few months if not a year.

The SVR has the ACE system, the hydraulic sway bars, and is comparable to a GLE63, not a G wagon, in driving dynamics. The Rover has the advantage in that it still works off-road, not that anybody cares in an SVR.

We had our first V8 defender show up last week, kinda cool to see, I just can't get on board with the defender design language, and their initial quality has been abysmal.
