What to look out for
I am someone that has been looking at AMG GTs for a while now and finally think I found some that match the spec I was looking for. Since I am buying pre-owned and private party, what should I look out for? These cars seem to be built very well and the issues that are there seem to be mostly discussed on the private AMG forum I do not have access to.
I know that whatever vehicle I do go forward with, I will go for a dealer inspection to ensure the vehicle is clean from that standpoint. I also do not mind vehicles with interesting stories, as long as they were diagnosed and repaired properly (early 2016s that got lemoned due to their owners).
What else should I look out for specifically on this car, other than the regular pre-owned car checklists.
P.S. If anyone is in the Detroit area, please PM me. There are vehicles in the area that I like and would love it if a fellow AMG GTS owner gives a hand Dinner on me.

A good PPI should tell you most things you would want to know about the car. Good service history, carfax, and mileage can tell you a lot about how well the car was maintained and cared for.

The Mercedes dealers were tight lipped about the prior service history on cars I was shopping...unless I'd scheduled a PPI with them. That could be a second reason to do the PPI, to get the full factory service history in person while you're there.

OP, do you have a relationship with a nearby Benz dealer Service Adviser. If so he can tell you everything about the car as far as the dealer service records and history. If you dont they are pretty tight lipped about releasing any info since they dont know you. A lunch contribution fund to a SA will go a long way as a gesture if you have a VIN #. As far as what to look for, look for everything and anything. All cars are different and everything goes back to how it was maintained and kept up on.
Good Luck. I am in the Chicagoland area so if you find a car you like let me know i might be able to run out and take a look at it for you.

First of all, thank you all for your valuable advice. I was definitely planning to do a in-depth PPI of the vehicle I will be finalizing. I did not know that any dealer would be able to pull the factory service records of the vehicle. I do not have a relationship with any Benz dealer, so looks like I will have to get the SAs lunch.

@BBS63 Thanks for the offer, but I already live in the Chicago area! Once the perfect car ends up in my hands, let's catch up! Would love to meet a fellow GTS owner

Legobro, i know the market is crazy but Westmont has a real nice white GTS but of course they are crazy in their price and I think it has 20k miles.

@BBS63 I did drive the one in Westmont. It's priced crazy. But vehicle was in good condition. I am not too concerned about miles. The M178 and the transmission can definitely take a beating in this vehicle if they are well taken care of.

I had two cars fall out under me from this ludicrous market. Offered fair values to the sellers, got accepted, and then got beat out by someone's over asking offer. I am honestly leaning toward an LC500 now over an AMG GTS. The speed and handling might not be there, but the NA V8 on it sounds good on its own level. Will do a test drive at a local dealer and follow up here

Oh! I'd love to hear your impressions going from the GT S to GT C. I've not driven the two back-to-back, but I remember the GT C as feeling even more nimble and pointy than the GT S. What are the major differences in driving and living with the two?
