A joke. (But obviously missed if I have to spell it out.)
Spelling it out: Here you are trying to sell your car and someone wants to buy a part. Sometimes you can make a lot of money parting out a car, but that's almost always done with wrecks. So the point of the joke (clearly missed) was that you could make more money by just selling off parts to anybody who wanted something from the car. Of course that wasn't going to happen as you are not on the junkyard business.
